Ran my cam in yesterday. Been restoring the car for 4 yrs and it started right up and ran realy well but started getting hot after around 15 minutes so i turned it off. Figured it just needed more water i waited till it cooled down and when i pulled the radiator cap off there was brown foamy sludge on the cap and floating o the water. The oil looks fine on the dipstick. Is this oil in the water or possibly something else? The radiator is one that was sitting around for yrs in my shed but was still fine.

Drain your oil to see what it looks like. if it's the same then i'd say headgasket. if it looks good i'd pull the radiator and have it flushed. you never know what could of crawled in it.

Is it a automatic or 4 spd? My wifes old Oldsmobile had that a while back and it was trans fluid in the antifreeze from the trans cooler leaking into the coolant. I put a new radiator in it and flushed the system good and it was fine.

It's a typical sign of oil in the coolant for sure.

I dont have time today to mess with it but the sludge smells just like rust. Theres no oil smell and the texture and coor is just like rust.
