The best part of using an electric fan and pump is being able to cool down between rounds much better. In that regard your ET could improve. According to a mag article a couple years ago, a Black Magic fan freed up some 40 hp over a stock non clutch fan. I don't know how much it would free up from a clutch fan.

There is a great article in the latest issue of Car Craft mag talking about various things that sap power between the engine and the rear wheels. Depending on how good your clutch fan is set up, you may have 10-20 HP that can be gained with an electric fan.

Scott,

It is very advantageous for cool down between rounds as Pat said...and may free up some power also.

BTW, is that my clutch fan you still have? I was wondering where that was. graemlins/clonk.gif

Scott,

I might have mentioned that I recently installed a Flex-a-Lite twin electric fan in my car. This is replacing the factory clutch fan setup. I also installed a CSI electric water pump which is replacing the GM aluminum pump that I had in there. I'm planning on racing the car in a couple weeks when I get my cast off. Unfortunately I won't have back to back tests to see what difference the change makes, and I'm dealing with more than one change. However I do have data from last year with similar temperatures to compare. If the car picks up more than .1 (and I believe it will) it's safe to say that the chages were worth some ET. I'll let you know what happens.

I'm gonna switch from a cheapo flex fan to a electric fan, would I see more power then guys switching from the stock clutch to electric or less.

I wonder which is more efficent, one of those cheap flex fans or the stock fans in regards to power.

One thing to think about..if flex fans worked better or even as good as a stock clutch fan I would think one of the big three would have installed them considering the money they would have saved.

I wonder which is more efficent, one of those cheap flex fans or the stock fans in regards to power. I think it was the same Car Craft article referenced above,
in which, a factory style clutch fan was worth 19 hp over the flex fan,
and the electric was worth 40 +/- hp over the flex fan.

That is I think the stock fans are more efficient than flex fans.
So based on that you'd stand to gain more.

Just remember to consider the size of your existing alternator when considering electric fans.
Most of the good electric fans like the Lincoln MarkVIII, Taurus or other hi perf. electric fans draw a considerable amount of amperage.
I am now running a taurus fan, it draws over 100 amps to start and I've read 33 amps @ 12volts and 44amps @ 14.4 volts. I also run a 95 amp alternator and have no problem.
I love electric cooling fans and the control I have over them.
