How do you know it is an LS6 body? What plant was it built at? What build date? Any pictures?

Do you have any paperwork to prove it's LS6 roots?

the numbers matching number on the other side of town

Even if YOU were the original owner, unless you can PROVE it is an original LS6 car (or even an original SS), the value will be reduced... Documentation goes along way towards the value, especially on an LS6...

Even more important because not just the engine has been changed, but the trans and rearend too...

Might be worth it to see IF you could buy that Malibu on the other side of town and reunite the drivetrain...

Go get the malibu with the matching numbers engine, trans and rear, then put it in the ls6 body and make mondo money. I dont think an ls6 body is worth any more than a normal ss body if it doesnt still have the ls6. With a buildsheet it might be worth a little bit more to someone with an ls6 clone dream.

I believe we need a sticky to save the most bizarre LS6 stories, my stomach hurts. I'd call Hagerty and tell them you want 100k insurance on it....and explain the drivetrain resides across town to deter theft. Seriously you need to go back across town and buy the other car. But now that your here might as well give us a name and town for an official welcome from the fellows. Have you taken any pic's of the old drivetrain....cowl or vin tag?

Carl as others have said it really not worth any more than any SS body without documentation. Then without seeing the car and the actual condition it hard to put an actual value.....heres a guess between 1k to 20k. You can look at eBay and see what similar cars are going for. Or better yet....take some NICE pic's and post it in the for sale section of Team Chevelle and put best offer on it. The guy who has the malibu wanting 80k sniffed to much R-12 or something....If he wants 80k for anything.....He needs the body you now have.....Its a 2 way street.

Just for your info, you could also have a 3/8 Fuel Line with no Return on a L-48.

Carl, its a shame that he did what he did but thats his choice. I have to admit I have created a few non matching numbers cars in my past. Blown or Oil burning motors replaced with factory crates (old school LT-1's motors), Tranny's (M-21 and M-22's) and 12 bolt rears replaced with 100 dollars replacements found in the Baltimore Sunday Sun. This numbers matching stuff meant nothing to us way back when. Some people who had real SS cars removed the emblems and others were cloning them to SS cars in the 70's...Go figure....Anyway if you want top dollar for your body post it for sale on this site. There are folks here who can probably pick out some of the defining things on whats left and make you a fair offer.

Go get the malibu with the matching numbers engine, trans and rear, then put it in the LS6 body and make "mondo money".

I would buy the drive train out of the car tomorrow if i could afford it, the guy wants crazy money for that car, he wants 80g for a malibu with my correct motor ........ he is nuts .......
If you are certain, your Chevelle is a "real" LS6 car .....

Go check the CON VIN numbers on his Malibu's engine and transmission .....

If they match your car's VIN numbers, offer the guy "10 or 15 or 20 grand" for his complete car ...

Use the Malibu for body parts, floor pans, doors, fenders, ect...... on your LS6 body......

If you can re-combine the "number matching" LS6 motor/ transmission/ rearend, with the original LS6 body, "you can NAME YOUR PRICE, with a hefty profit", even if you sell it, before it's fully restored ......... Don.

When questions, speculation and rumors are at epidemic proportions, the only way to solve a mystery, is to have the people with hard core, rock solid proof, come forward, and tell what they have seen and might know, to be the truth..........
So we, can "rest assured", that the sweep dashed, original chrome side moldings, amber turn signal cars, are not mistaken for the REAL Chevelle Super Sports......

The only WAY to prove it's originality, is with original factory documentation......
With any of these documents...as proof it left the factory, an original Chevelle SS...
1) the original buildsheet .......
2) the original P-O-P .......
3) the original number matching engine ..... w/ partial v.i.n# .......
4) the original dealer invoice ................................................ Don.

Disclaimer;.... be damn sure, you know what your doing ..... this means "no re-stamped numbers" .......
"check the casting date codes"...."check the casting numbers"...."check anything and everything" ..
"then re-check it, again", before you buy anything ..... then remember those famous words, "e-bay" ...

According to "Chevrolet by the numbers" the big block Chevy engine block #3963512,
began production in October 1968, and ran through the end of the 1971 model year.....
