i have a 70 elcamino with a sb350, it has headers,eldelbrock performer rpm intake,600 edelbrock carb,auburn pro diff,3.55 gear
i was wanting to know what would be a good street cam, this car does see some track time and a good amount of street racing, comp cams told me to go with the 268 extreme energy
any suggestions? Thanx

i would still like to run my stock converter

yeah the 268 or 262 is what you would want. The 262 would net you more torque down low at a sacrifice of horsepower up high. I dont know if their shipping but the Voodoo 268 is said to outperform the comp 268 across the curve..

I have the xe262 in my 350 with stock converter. I love it. Tons of power down low but does sign off after around 4000 rpm.

lunati makes it, voodoo is a new line designed by tc's very own udharold, jegs and summit both have them listed.

i looked at the voodoo cam but it seem just a bit to mild for what i want, i dont want something that wont get the maximum out of my headers, intake, gears, and carb. i also looked at the comp cams 270h magnum. do you think that is to much, and do you have any other cams

thanx

What CR do you have. That will make a difference in which cam is appropriate. Too big and it will be a dog at lower rpm. Too small and you'll probably have detonation problems.

i have stock compression which is like 9 to 1 or 9.5 to 1. The car is all original it was my great grandfathers, bought new in '70. I saw you had some bfg's for sale, how worn are they and how much for shiping, im from indiana

thanx for everything

I have a XE268 in my smallblock and have been very happy with it(w/1.6 Harland Sharps). They say largest with stock converter but it really responded well to the 2400 I put in.Engines not in anything at the moment.

I really liked the old -151 cam, (350hp/327) in my stock, supposed 10.25 to 1 CR, L-48 motor way back when. BUT this cam is old-school!!!! Probably an Isky 270 Mega would be better nowadays??

I figure my motor was about 10 to 1!! It had one heck of a middle of second to the top of third CHARGE!! I loved it b/c I could get beat outta the hole AND charge right by them going up top of third!!

It should run good on todays good gas too??? Not the cheap stuff sorta deal tho...

Why Isky of course!!

One of the oldest cam companies there is!!

The company was created by the old "Cam-Father" himself, Ed Iskenderian.

His son Ron runs the place now..

http://www.iskycams.com

Do yourself a favor and read Isky's cat. from cover to cover AND the old tech. "blurbs" about three times!! They are cam history, just like when we can get UDHarold to take time to talk about the subject he so fondly LOVES!!!

The VooDoo 276 will work in your engine, but comes close to over-camming it.
The VooDoo 268 will work in your engine, and is the lasrgest I would recommend, if you have under 10:1 CR. The VooDoo 268 had 28 HP more than the XE 268 at 5800, so I'm curious why you think it is too mild.....
The VooDoo 262 will work in your engine, and outperforms the XE 262.
All of these are available from Jeg's and Summit, NOW. I've (Lunati) have shipped them 400 in January.
And now I must leave for tonight....

With your stock converter and relatively low compression, you dont want a huge cam. If you go too big, it just wont be worth it unless you are prepared to make the necessary changes to keep up with a hotter camshaft. If you dont make the changes, you could have been faster with a milder cam.

Listen to UDHarold cause he designs the cams. Im more familiar with comp cams than the new voodoo cams(that will probably change soon), so I can say that the XE 268 definitely is not too mild for your application. Its just about on the edge of how large you would want to go with a cam with your current drivetrain and compression. Its got a healthy sounding idle with good mid range pull and some higher rpm useage.

From what I gather from Harolds posts so far, the voodoo 268 is intended to compete with the comp cams 268 in a comparable application. Meaning, it should have similar operating charactoristics, so if you were thinking the XE268 is the best cam, youd also do well with the voodoo 268 cause it runs over a similar operating range. Yet the R&D time has been spent to make the voodoo run better over that operating range.

That range where both of these cams perform best is where you want to be. Its not to mild by any means. Its really just about the largest cam youd want to go with in your setup. Any larger and you will wish you had more compression and a new converter to keep up to the cam. So far, youve got a camshaft designer(UDHarold) and the tech guys from comp both telling you that their 268 camshafts are the best bet for your application. I think that the choice is obvious by now, and Id choose the voodoo over the comp.
