: Rear Suspension progressing!
RAMBO Jun 25th, 07, 2:48 PM OK- So I'm making progress...
My buddy TIG welded the box inserts into my old Lower RCA's yesterday... (gotta love friends with cool shops!)
We had to make out own shims to brace the arm while we pressed out the old bushings. Was a major PITA- But we got them all out, and new bushings pressed in. Plus now I have a great set of shims ready to use next time I have to do Rear Control Arms...
So now I've got the original arms, sandblasted, Boxed the Lowers, and have all new rubber bushings pressed in. Tonight I'll be painting them, and tomorrow they should be back on the car!
I'll probably spend a few minutes while i'm under there and drop the driveshaft and install Daves super duper DS loop!
kettbo Jun 25th, 07, 4:35 PM Good that you can work with one hand!:D
I'm actually kinda jealous of your progress....nice to have scheduled time off.

Dave Jun 25th, 07, 11:07 PM I got Mine installed tonite, fit's real nice.
kettbo Jun 25th, 07, 11:36 PM wrecked PT Snoozer hauled-off.....Elky is in the garage now
66 Buick Special Jun 26th, 07, 1:28 PM Congrats on movin' the PT!
When does the vinyl top resto begin?
kettbo Jun 26th, 07, 3:13 PM Greg,
The Elky will be 'soon' but dunno when.
Could possibly have the Nova 'appear' as transport when the Elky goes into the shop....
"Wifey, I need something to drive while the Elky gets worked-on for a few weeks, so I bought this Nova.....I just happen to have a 454 ready to bolt together and a TH400 under the bench....":D
If I had a few hundred bucks lying around, I'd like to put a beefed 200R-5 into the Elky or maybe a greatly re-worked T-5 WldClass if Dennis down the street puts his 700R-4 back into his 79 Elky 454.

When I have time, no money
When I have money, no time
RAMBO Jun 27th, 07, 12:54 AM All righty!
I Got all 4 arms painted tonight...
Dropped the driveshaft and test installed daves driveshaft loop (awesome fit!)
Reinstalled the rear upper arms
All thats left is to Remove the old lowers and install my new ones
Final Torque down for all the Rear control arm bolts
Final Torque for the U-joint bracket bolts
Drill and install the bolts for the Drive-shaft loop
Should be able to hammer that short list out tomorrow night and be back on the road for this weekend!
Dave Jun 27th, 07, 1:10 AM Ben, stop and pick up 2 1/2 x 21/2 bolt's. Mine were a little on the short side, but that's with the repop floor. I'll be interested in how Your bolt's fit.

Sounds like you selling us a defective product! ;)
kettbo Jun 27th, 07, 1:55 AM Dave,
what's the damage,part plus shipping?
if you've not mailed it...maybe get the part at Ben's:yes:
Dave Jun 27th, 07, 1:58 AM I have'nt got them to the P.O. yet. Been swamped till Tommorrow, but I'm guessing 5.00 to ship, plus 50.00 for the part. I'm not sure about Ben's, as I just got rid of the kid's for the next week or so, and I'm thinking bout just hiding out for the next few day's.
RAMBO Jun 27th, 07, 1:59 AM Ben, stop and pick up 2 1/2 x 21/2 bolt's. Mine were a little on the short side, but that's with the repop floor. I'll be interested in how Your bolt's fit.
I'll pick up some longer ones tomorrow on the way home before i drill the holes.
When you had yours up on jack stands did you have your rear axle supported, or hanging free?
I noticed when I had the axle hanging down all the way with the body supported- the driveshaft hit the bottom of the loop and it wouldn't allow the wings to be flush with the floor support- it was at least 1" from the floor support...
I can't remember now if i had the upper arms attached at that point or not- so that might have been letting it hang down... farther than it normally would. I'll check tomorrow after i get it bolted up properly to the floor.
Dave Jun 27th, 07, 2:03 AM Sounds like you selling us a defective product! ;)
Are You questioning the integrity of "Square Deal Dave";) I'll have You know I got over 4 customers, without a single complaint.
RAMBO Jun 28th, 07, 1:06 PM Well rear suspension is all back together now...
Still have to get out the torque wrench tonight and make sure all the bolts are up to 80ft/lbs but thats easy pickins...
Still have to drill the 2 holes for the driveshaft loop and bolt that up... But at least I'll be back on the road by tonight!
Dave Jun 28th, 07, 3:49 PM I want pic's.;)
RAMBO Jun 30th, 07, 2:31 AM DONE!
I had to completely drop my exhaust (muffler & tailpipe hangers included!) but once it was off i had access to drill the holes for Dave's driveshaft loop.
Had to pull the seats too so i could see what i was doing....
Amazingly- by accident or design- The outter holes on Dave's Coolio drive shaft loops line up exactly with the inner factory bucket seat brackets- So it has Extra reinforcing!
I bolted the exhaust back up and i'm good to go!
The car is back on the ground and ready for a test drive tomorrow!
:-)
Thanks again to Dave for the awesome driveshaft loops! I feel much more secure now knowing its down there.
Dave Jun 30th, 07, 2:45 AM Cool. I ended up pulling My seat's just to make it a little easier. I was also able to flip the carpet back also, and put the bolt's under it.
The way My exhaust is, the driveline would hit the h-pipe, before it hit the loop. That hasn't happened yet, and I'm pretty sure I had the car airborne once, or really dang close to it. So if You lift the car all the way, I think the upper arms will bottom out, before the loop hits.
