Im looking for a cam to last until the spring in my SBC 283. The old Blueracer cam wiped a lobe. I was looking for something NOT to expensive just to drive around in. I been looking at these Summit Cams and Lifters Kit, just need an opinion on which one should to go with.

Here they are:

* Advertised duration: 252 intake/262 exhaust
* Duration at .050 in. cam lift: 194 intake/204 exhaust
* Gross valve lift: .398 in. intake/.420 in. exhaust
* Lobe separation: 112 degrees

* Duration at .050 in. cam lift: 204 intake/214 exhaust
* Gross valve lift: .420 in. intake/.442 in. exhaust
* Lobe separation: 112 degrees
* RPM range: 1,500 to 4,000

other info: 461 Fuelie Heads 2.02/2.60, 700R4, 3:73, 670 Holley, and RPM Intake.

I used summit cams at one point. I think they're crane. It lasted fine and I had no complaints. I'd go with the smaller one. It'll be more fun to drive on the street.

What RPM range does this thing normally run in? It seems with that big carb (for a 283), and an RPM manifold you'd be up there.

Also, what does your 408 put out? I have almost the same combo being built (see sig) and I might actually get a small base circle cam from Harold as well.

Well if they are Crane, theare probably from the WBR line since Crane owns them now..

BTW, the first cam is similar to the great old -929 stock cam and the second is the Performer which for a one step up from stock generally is a REAL DANDY!! Imho...

PS., to me the old -929 cam ran very well in the little 195hp/283 two barrel and 220hp/283 four barrel motors!!! Another very good cam for a 283 is the -097 Little Duntov solid cam, too!!!!

Go with the SUM-K1102..perfect match with a 283 IMHO and experience.
