I have a 70 Chevelle that currently has a 10 bolt rear end. I am building a BB and would really like to have a 12 Bolt behind it. I plan on replacing the gears and axles, but would like to have atleast the housing to start out with. I have had a hard time finding a good used A-body rear end, but I know that these rear ends were also very common in trucks. I have found a unit from a 71 Chevy Pickup. Is it worth trying to modify this housing to work under the Chevelle?

You would have a hard time getting a truck rear end into your Chevelle. The truck rear ends don't have the eyes cast into the center for the upper controll arm bushings, and you can't weld them on. You would have to use some kind of after market suspension, like ladder bars or a 4 link. There are also some differences in the truck 12 bolt. The pinion shaft is smaller, the brakes are larger and the axle bearings are larger. The width is also more than the Chevelle rear end, so it would have to be narrowed and custom axles installed. How about a new Moser 12 bolt?
