I am looking at a 1970 Chevelle Malibu. It's a 327 auto, front disc brakes, motor & tranny in good shape, body is fair to poor. I can get this car for $1,000. Interior is fair. Seems to be a fair price from what I have read, just want a few opinions from you folks.

yeah, sounds good to me. i think just about any 70 chevelle for $1000 or less is a good deal, as long as it is a complete and running car

Well, I took my 70 Malibu to a local resto shop to get an estimate on typical front fenders rust repair. You know, the lower rear corners. The guy looked 'em over and offered me $400 on the spot for 'em. The lower part of the inner braces were damaged, but rebuildable.

I passed and had him butt weld new metal. He rebuilt the braces, zinc-chromated the lower 1/2 of the fenders. Cost was $300 plus $100 for repop panels. Top notch job. They look like there was never any work done inside or out (I have pictures as he repaired them). When he brought out the repaired fenders, he offered me $600 plus 2 used repop fenders (similiar shape my OEM's were in previously).

So $1000 for the whole car dosen't seem like a big risk.....by the way if you want to sell those fenders........email me http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
