I am looking for advise. 9.5:1 383 Motown 220 cylinder heads, Victor Intake 650 Mighty Demon,3000 B&M Holeshot with 4.10 gear right now I have a XE 282Hr roller cam but the fact it quits revving at 6000 Rpm turns me off. I am looking for a solid cam that will give me the same performance but still leaves me the ability to go to 6000 with out valve float. I don't want to turn it much higher but I don't like that valve float. Thanks for your time.

if you are looking for the same performance and don't want to turn it any higher, then what's the point of spending big bucks to switch roller cam and lifters?

(edit) just re-read your post. I guess if you are OK with a solid flat tappet cam, then buy a CC 294S and sell your roller set up and pocket the difference.

How about a rev kit and a bigger carb? I use the 987 springs with my 280HR and it revs well to 6100.

A SB276/284F10, 243/251 at .050, .518/.530 valve lift, and 110 LSA, will give you lots of power, peak about 6400, and rev over 7000. It will need a good high volume mech pump and 1/2" fuel line.
This cam makes better power than a CC 294S, and if you want frosting on the cake, get a SB280/284F10, 247.251 at .050, .525/.530 valve lift, and agaian 110 LSA. The 280 is 5° fatter at .200 than the 294S, although they have the same .050 and valve lift numbers.
