I am going to go look at a 12 bolt rear end out of a early 70s el camino or 69 68 its unkown from just looking at it, i would like to know the gears posi etc... Does anyone have a vin for this? Thanks.

Look at the axle code usually on the front passenger side. Will read cd,cda or something similar. Then check the code against the table listed on the homepage. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The vin may not be what is in it. Your best bet will be to turn one of the the axles to see if its a peg leg, the axles turn in opposite directions, a posi, axles turn the same direction but can be forced to turn opposite when put in a bind or welded, turn the same no matter what you do. As far as gear, count the rotations of the pinion compared to the axle. If you get 4 to 1 with a posi its a 4.11 or 4.10. A peg will be different, get your count and double it.
