I have a 65 Malibu SS. I am converting the 283/2bbl over to a 4bbl. I know the manifold from a 283 4bbl or one from a 327/250hp is the correct one; however I am stumped on the how to recognize it by numbers. I am sure there is a range of years that will work as is true of the carb. Can anyone help me ID an intake or tell me where to purchase one. I am trying to stay as correct as possible.

It depends on if you want to run a square bore carb(holley) or spreadbore(quadrajet) ,and it depends on if you want aluminum or cast iron, i have looked all over for an early model aluminum intake with the oil filler tube and spreadbore pattern for my 68 327 and i dont believe there is one, but they did make square bore(HOLLEY) patterns for early model motors with the oil fill tube,i found an aluminum sq bore cast#3917610 on ebay that came on a 67-68 camaro, that sold for $335.00, Iyou want aluminum that will fit a quadrajet the edelbrock 2101 has provisions for an oil fill tube, you will have to machine out, otherwise go to ebay motors parts and accessories for cars and trucks and type in "sbc intake" and you may find what you need, there are a couple of cast iron spreadbores and a couple of aluminum square bores that may be just what your looking for.

First off, I forget if you need an old WCFB intake to be stock?????

I flat don't remember when GM switched from the WCFB's on the 283 engine's to the Q-Jet??

Try these!!

'62/'65 327, PN 3866922

'64/'65, PN 384457

And I switched my Mom's new '65 Chevelle's 283 2-barrel over to a '57 WCFB and boy did she get hot!!

Thanks for the responses. Guess I should have mentioned I have a correct Rochester 4GC carb ( Not a quadrajet. The quadrajet came in 66. ) and want to keep the manifold correct also. It must be a cast iron one and mate to the rochester carb. In the interchange book there is only one P/N listed.#3870394Since the carb and intake are also used going back for a couple of years there must be other p/n that will work.

I seem to have a plethora of sbc intakes lying around, if you have any interest, let me know.

GM iron, 3876954, casting date L175, spreadbore with oil filler, believe it's a 65 casting, needs a paint job.

Holley 300-36, aluminum dual plane. Ground the Holley logo off the front runner, was going to paint it and go stealth mode, sold project before it got mounted. never been on an engine.

Edelbrock Performer, 2101, new in box, never been mounted to an engine

Don't forget the old Weiand 8004 Q-Jet manifold!

It's a schosh better than the old 2101 Performer.
