:sad:I have a 1967 Chevelle SS convertible. I have an ignition (or wiring) problem where the car won't shut off when I turn the ignition off... and even remove the key. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What type of ignition system do you have (MSD, HEI or ???) What type of alternator do you have (internally or externally regulated) and if internally, is it wired as a 1 wire or a 3 wire? Your problem is caused from backfeeding from the charging system. It is caused from incorrect wiring, or a aftermarket ignition (like a MSD 6AL) that needs a diode.

Thanks for the response Greg. Not sure what MSD or HIE is? It's a standard GM ignition switch. I just purchased and installed a new one tonight from Napa (part#KS6533) and it didn't help. The alternator is an internally regulated 3 wire. You think I should try replacing the alternator next.

I stand corrected... it's externally regulated

No go on replacing the alternator and the voltage regulator. Same problem still exists.

Suggestions?

When talking about ignition systems, we are talking about the distributor and the related parts (coil, points, ignition box ect...) Would need to know the make and manufacture. The ignition switch generally has nothing to do with runon.

Sounds more like run-on too.

Check you carburetor idle/butterfly clearance specs.

The ign switch has to be aligned correctly. that may be your problem. You didn't say if you are using a aftermarket ign. box. Gary

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Turns out the battery cable was out of position and grounding out on the stater solenoid.
