I am gathering parts to convert my '70 Chevelle from column-shifted auto to floor shifted...

The car will not be stock, but am planning on a stock console and "staple" shifter...

Not sure if I really care about backup lights working (or maybe I can modify the shifter), so not worried about the "back-drive" linkage...

I have seen used columns, and Ground Up selling rebuilt tilts...

What other options do I have to look relatively at home in my Chevelle?

I heard the Monte's columns have a longer intermediate shaft, but can I use my non-tilt column for those pieces?

Anything else a fairly straigh-forward swap? I am not worried about wiring, as I need to modify my harness anyway...

Naturally, I am looking for less-expensive options... I think I can get the Ground Up column for around $360 (plus shipping, etc)...

Thanks...

PS, I know I could take a column-shift tilt and modify it, but what columns fit?

My son and I chose to add the options to his car that are pretty much standard in todays cars. This Chevelle was not anywhere close to original when we bought it but we decide to make it the right look and feel as we restored it or to be more precise cloned it. We added original power windows and power door locks, power trunk release, stereo speakers and AC from a donor 4 door Chevelle. We also converted to a tilt column and floor shift. Bucket seats were already there, but just bolted through the floor when we bought it. We just needed to replace the mid 80's console with a correct one and we were golden. We also have a rear defrost but haven't installed it yet. This is not to mention the mechancals (see my signature). There are plenty of options to look at and I would recommend checking out the assembly manual before you decide to make sure that you know you are getting into though.
