Last night was the last night at New England Dragway so we loaded up and hoped for the best.

My car is a street driver that was not purpose built for the drags but I wanted to see if I could slip into the 11's... This was the first time ever on ET STREET slicks so I decided to take it out easy and then row the gears--- I normally run street tires with a 12.75 best with around 113.5 miles an hour. If nothing broke I would increase power at launch with each pass.

Well the first pass was my best all night-- LOL did the burnout, pulled up and launched at 2000. The car hooked, then bogged then went. I knew 2000 would be low with simply side stepping the clutch but I wanted to know if parts were gonna break. I will post this run in increments at the bottom. next pass I launched at 3200 and the car hooked bogged slightly again and then went--- 1st---good,,,, powershift 2nd---good,,,,,,powershift3rd--good,,,damn---wont come out of third gear--lay off and coast. that run:
rt 545
60 1.88

not too bad so i come around again, wait forever---- do the burn out--- stage next to my buddy and hold it at 3950 or so, side step the clutch and killed an axle.. oh well load it up and go home. I think the 11 is possible with some tuning and getting the car to get some wheel spin at take off. there is none at at all right now... all of my stick cars needed like 1 or maybe 1.5 rotations of wheel spin to not bring the motor to its knees in the first 10 feet.

all in all a good night, one broken axle and my buddy finally went 10.9x (cant recall if it was 0 or 7) with his 70.. his name is woody and some of the guys here know him from Nicks down in mass.

here goes:
rt 621
60 1.972
330 5.274
1/8 8.028
mph 89.43
1000 10.401
1/4 12.321
mph 112.69

68 4 speed, 3750lbs, 410, 28x12.5 et street, 454, 10.25 CR, 990 rectangles, cc 294 solid, vic jr, msd, 850 DP holley, 37 total advance(checked when i got home--wish I had set it a lil higher), all shifts at 6400,roller rockers, all I can think of--

laugh with me--not at me

Matt, you're sooooo close! Did you find the issue with 3rd gear? If not check your shift rod adjustments. I went ahead and bought some Superior replacement axles from www.chrismans.com (http://www.chrismans.com). $204 delivered. DON'T want to break them!

1.88 60' is getting there! Nice man! I was thinking about putting some more air in the BFG DRs I use toi get that slight spin you speak of. Next year.

Was 454Vette there? His 65 GTO boogies pretty good! Be cool to watch you two stickmen run against one another!

yes, he was there... we all sat around and talked while they cleaned the track after a fragged motor in the left lane.

just pulled the rear apart----- smoked the spiders.... nice easy fix.....

Cool
Matt

I should have raised the air pressure from 14 to 20 to get some wheel spin... You called it Gene

Matt, no YOU called it. Actually, MC71454 recommended to me. Next thing I want to try.

Hey Matt! I watched one of your runs because I was 3 cars behind you in staging, think it must've been that 12.30 run, but I thought it was 12.40, maybe it was another run. Anyway- congrats on a new best time- looking good! Poor Chuckie had some probs running street tires with his 66 huh? I don't think he even hit the 12's poor guy- BTW- for you guys who don't know- his 66 convert usually runs 10's on slicks. No wonder he left early.... Gene- I finally got to try the nitrous on the GTO- something didn't work- not sure what happened- tried 2 times, didn't make any more power than N/A. 1st run was 12.2/117MPH. I tried bringing it up in staging to 3,000 and hitting the button to see if it was working- the motor jumped in RPM quick. But on the track- NOTHING? Something happened, I could feel a difference, but no change in times. The second time I tried it it stumbled and popped and only ran 108MPH. It seemed to pull harder letting off the gas so I went through the eyes at like 3/4 throttle. A friend in the stands said it was breaking up bad- but no black smoke or anything out the tailpipes... Oh well, I have the winter to troubleshoot it now. I ran the rest of the night on the motor. No traction- but still managed a few 12.0-12.1/117 passes.
