To all of us who race and or have a cage in our cars who do you use and what type of $ amount are they letting you insure for......

I called JC TAYLOR today and they wont insure you if you have a cage......

I'm more concerned with a total loss value etc.....If something were to happen to my car at this point I would only get book value....Which would be very little......

I would like to put around $20,000 total loss ,but with a cage I cant seem to find anyone....Or does anyone know of someone that will do an appraisal on my car local.....

Any ideas would be very helpfull....Thanks...Scott.

I get my insurance through a co. by the name of Continental Western Group, it costs about 150.00 per year for full coverage. I know for sure they will insure a car with a cage, One of my friends called them when nobody else would touch his Pro Street Camero, They picked it right up..

I get it through a ins. broaker, so the phone # isn't on the bill. The address is PO box 1594, Desmoines, IA 5036-1564

Hope this helps graemlins/waving.gif

You can check out www.grundy.com. (http://www.grundy.com.) I didn't see any exclusions for cages.

Hey Scott. I use Grundy, and I didn't see anything in their policy that excludes cages. They do ask you on the app. if the vehicle will be used for racing, but I don't know for sure if they'll refuse you coverage for it. They may not cover damage that occurs while racing. Their rates are VERY reasonable and you should be able to insure for an agreed value of more than 20K if you wanted to. They don't require an appraisal, just a description and pictures. Since your car isn't an original SS, I think the best way to appraise your car is to determine a replacement value. How much would it cost you for the parts, materials and labor to do it over again? (Only count materials and labor for the stripes once :D ) Their cust svc dept is great, and I'm sure they'll be able to answer your questions.

I have mine insured though Classic Automobile Insurance Co. I think their web site is www.classicins.com (http://www.classicins.com)

I have mine insured for an agreed value of $25,000. This is the most you can do without having an appraisal done. They will insure race cars and street/strip cars with cages, etc. When I spoke with Grundy, they would not.

My premium is like $260-360/year...forget which now.

I have mine through state farm insurance, and they cover my car for like 2,000 + what ever i have in recipts. They had to come and take pictures of it,cause i mentioned i may race it occasionally, wow, i wish i had never opened my mouth. They practically hung up on me, but we got it all worked out. Its its $185 for 6 months coverage. And im 21 so im sure its much less for older folks.

Hey guys. I also Use State Farm, and My Nova is covered for 15,000. 15 is the limit unless someone comes out to look at it. I pay $11 a month for full coverage.
Nickel333, sounds like your getting the short end of the stick from state farm on that one.

Most specialty car insurers will insure your vehicle with a cage, modified or whatever. If you want, they will agree to the value (I am pretty sure that Grundy's will).

However, make no mistake, you will definitely not be insured if anything happens while you are racing. There are specific exclusions for speed trials, racing, etc. on the policy. By undertaking those events, you are assuming your own risk (self-insured).

Grundy's, American Classic Car Insurance, Hagarty are all reputable insurers for Chevelles. State Farm (I have used them, personally) and other insurers will cover your vehicle (especially if you have other vehicles insured by them) but they may undervalue your vehicle (in the event of a loss) and won't understand your situation as well as the others I have mentioned.

Hagerty doesn't allow rollbars, blowers and the like (Pro Street). Nothing on Grundy.com says anything about them. I believe Camcojb (Jody) is with Grundy and they didn't like the idea about rollbars when he talked to them. At least that is what I remember....

Try Rally out of New Jersey. Pretty reasonable and have 6500 mile limit per year and they have no problem taking the car to the track and racing it, and they don't have a problem with roll cages etc... Good prices as well, they quoted us on my sons 68 chevelle (he is 20) with myself, wife and my son listed as drivers $135 per year full coverage $8,500 replacement value and that also included uninsured motorists.

WoW!!!!!!......all of you guys' car insurance is dirt cheap!!! Wish it was that cheap over here :( ...as it is, I'm paying a little over 3 grand for my 4 cars for the year, and that's with AAA. The main one that put us over the top is my '02 Stang Vert...and my wife, since she's only 22. My monthly payment is about $430 a month for my cars, and you guys are paying under $200 a year!!!...WOW, sorry, just shocked  Well, unfortunatly I'm going to have to put down 3 grand of my tax money to take care of my car insurance, that way I don't have that monthly bill biting me in the a$$ every month. :(

The understanding is that these are special show and collector's vehicles that are not treated and driven like your everyday econobox. The risk is much lower for the insurance company.

Look at the their website in the link and it specifically exlcludes that type of car. I would double check with the insurance company so you are not hung out to dry if you have a claim. BTW who is the underwriter and what is the name of the agent. I got a prostreet car myself that is need of insurance.

I agree Jeff. They told me no cages, and blowers were a "maybe", but subject to their scrutiny. And I already had a car covered with them.

they say no blowers and cages modified exclusively for racing.not for show cars, since i show my car they covered it,but it will not be covered if i race the car.jeff

Thanks for the clarification Jeff. It seems agents are interpreting the clause differently. Personally I hate it when they split hairs on clauses like that. It gives them too much latitude for denials of claims or cancellation.

Did they tell you that you can't race it all or just that they don't cover racecars? Most insurance companies won't cover any car that is damaged in any sort of timed event.

Anyways got any pics of your camaro ? smile.gif

hi ray just new here..Only 5 or 6 years ago insurance premiums seemed very affordable with fantastic coverage to match. check http://www.insurancepaylite.com see how insurance companies price..hehe.Well, if you're an individual or family who pays for insurance today chances are you're literally getting punched in the pocket book, and it hurts.
Insurance has changed dramatically over the last five years and this article will no doubt arm you with the knowledge you need to get the most out of your next insurance plan. First, an individual or family needs to identify with what they need out of a plan. Notice I say need, because unless you make more money than you know what to do with there is no way in the world most people can afford the "Perfect" plan with all the bells and whistles

LXS - All of the companies we are mentioning will insure an "Antique" vehicle - which means 20+ years old - in California for only a few hundred dollars a year. Of course there are conditions that must be met, like garage kept and it can not be driven on a daily basis or to work - only for pleasure purposes and usually under 5k miles per year.

American Collectors is another one to check out. Most of the companies want a third party appraisal if it is a high dollar car.

There are companies out there that will also cover your car wen being raced (in an NHRA event). I had a list of companies that would cover "modified" cars. I will see if I can find it. I think I posted it over at Team Camaro a while ago.

Here is a list I threw together of "Classic" car insurance companies: Chrome www.anpac.com , Parish Heacock www.parishheacock.com , Condon & Skelly www.condonskelly.com , AON www.aoncollectorcar.com , Classic Automobile Insurance Agency www.classicins.com , J.C. Taylor (modified insurance agency) www.jctaylor.com

Parish Heacock will cover your "race car" as well. I know there are two other companies out there that will cover "race cars" too, but I can't find the info right now. I think I may have posted it before.

I'm sure there are more out there I just thought this would help make it easy for shopping around.

The above is the info I was refering to, that I had posted over at Team Camaro. I hope this helps.

PS. IMAKEHP, VERY nice car. What color is that?

I'd also get a GPS devise to help locate it in case some lowlife steals it. The harder you make something to steal the less likely someone will try. Manual or electronic fuel shutoffs that activate after an engine is driven a short distance is a real good thing to put on a car, as then they have to scramble to get out of sight. I think you'd be wise to try to get about 40K-50K in coverage as everything you've done will cost twice as much to do again.

I have Hagarty through a local AllState agent. $240 a year for $27k total loss, $250 deductable. I have a '70 Chevelle, had it appraised by two differnet guys and submitted the info to the insurance company. I then took it to them and they took pictures. No problems. They require you provide proof of another car you drive daily and carry insurance on.

They want you to the keep the car as a show car. I figure if I'm driving it, I'm showing it someone. :D
