So... I have this HEI dist that I want to set the weights on... Hoping to be able to get around 15 initial and 35 on Total... But, I am not sure how I would go around and do that... ESP when my mechanical advance likes to go higher and higher as the rpm increases... How Do I make it advance 20 degrees and stay at 20 degrees?
Thanks

I have heard people say that tuning an HEI is harder than buying an aftermarket dist. I disagree. All I did is put little tack welds where the flywieghts meet the center untill I had my mechanical advance limited to the 18 degrees I needed. Then I just played with different springs and welds on the flywieghts(in places that won't affect total advance.) After every change I made, I checked my curve with a dial back light untill I found a setup that worked.

s,
The proper way to do it is to find a shop with a distributor machine and have them curve it. Some of the curve kits have a chart on the back of the package that show different curves depending on the combination of springs used, but I dont know how correct they are.

I've tried every curve kit I could find, and they were all junk. The only thing to buy them for is the springs and bushings.

I agree with Bill. if you cannot find a local shop, there is a guy local to me that does excellent work. You can probably get it back in 5 days (UPS 2 days in, one day at the shop, 2 days back).
