: People with 383's and 3.55 or higher gearing.....
Malibu73 Jun 18th, 07, 2:48 AM Can you hammer it from a roll (15-35) and smoke the tires? Can you smoke the tires using only your carb's primary side without cracking open all 4 barrels?
IF you can, what are your power levels/gear ratios?
Also do the tires chirp when you shift gears?
Just curious what I'll be able to do in my car when I get built. :D
Sorry if this seems immature :D
bdc1013 Jun 18th, 07, 3:54 AM i have 3.73 gears and i cant smoke my tires from a roll but i can get them to slip.
Malibu73 Jun 18th, 07, 2:55 PM I know I won't be able to roast the tires all the way up the block like a BBC, but I figure 484lb-ft of torque or there abouts should be able to provide me with some good times :)
Anyone else?
bdc1013 Jun 18th, 07, 2:59 PM yeah... it wont be anything like a BBC backed by a 4sp or 5sp
but sounds like you're going to have some pretty good numbers, i only have 390 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque to my rear wheels and i go through those BFG radial T/A's like a big juicy burger for lunch. tires are wasted much faster with a stage 3 clutch and a manual tranny for sure~!
onovakind67 Jun 18th, 07, 4:30 PM Just curious what I'll be able to do in my car when I get built. :D
It depends on how you build it. If you're counting on computer power to spin your tires, you may be somewhat disappointed.
chevguy65 Jun 18th, 07, 5:48 PM I have a 355 and 3.73 rear gears.
With my old street tires I could get it to spin the tires easy at 10-25mph.
It chirps tires even now shifting normally from 1st to 2nd.
I am now running mt et street drag radials and rollong burnouts are not so simple.
rchevellea Jun 18th, 07, 8:54 PM my 383 is 404 hp at the flywheel and 437 trq at the flywheel. with my setup primaries only (i unhook the secondaries for around town driving to save a little bit of gas) with my m20 and 3.42 gears and 28 inch tall indy 500 tires they dont "smoke" at a 15-35 mph roll take off but it sure gets sideways real quick, and it will churp all the way to 3, man i love my 4-speed. and its not immature at all....its FUN. good luck and let us know what you come up with!!!
BowtieAaron Jun 19th, 07, 1:14 AM i used to beable to bust em loose from a 10 roll with 308's and a powerglide. also with the muncie.
with the muncie i was able to bust 2nd loose, and wheel hop like hell, and chirp 3rd and belive it or not 4th.
and all i had was a 350 with flat tops, 336x heads, xe268 cam.
but i washed the mains, so that motors a no go.
BDC wats your combo?
aaron
Jr1964 Jun 19th, 07, 2:23 AM Check my sig. for specs.
Yeah, I can get 'em spinning easy at 10mph, and when I shift to second it'll spin the tires again about 20ft.
Funny, first few times it happened I thought the trans was slipping . . .
till I saw the speedo go from 40mph to 85mph those 20ft!
Malibu73 Jun 20th, 07, 1:25 PM Any other's want to chime in? :)
Camaro_fever68 Jun 21st, 07, 2:43 AM In my Chevelle I had 3.55's and street tires (295/50-15) and could blow'em out at a 20+mph roll. I then went to 4.10's with 255/60-15 E.T. street radials, added lower control arm brackets and air-bags. Now I can barely make it spin from a dead stop without using the brakes but it still chirps second.
Jimmy P Jun 21st, 07, 9:39 AM I can boil the tires on a roll @ 40 mph, but I guess the 427 5 speed and 3.73's help a little.....
camarofreak Jun 21st, 07, 2:02 PM I have a 383 with 3:73`s and a built 350 turbo with a 3000-3500 stahl and cant break them loose at 20-mph or so roll but i am also using hotchkis rear arms, with 295-50-15`s but they chirp goin from 1-2nd and from 2-3rd
can roastem from a stand still tho!!
it tends to drop the ass and just scream forward!!
JimM Jun 21st, 07, 11:39 PM I have a 383, tko 500 (3.27 first) and 3.08 gears in my Camaro. It will roast the tires at will in first with less than half throttle with no help from the clutch. Chassis dyno'ed at 293 hp, 390 tq, 350 tq even at 2k.
Malibu73 Jun 22nd, 07, 1:57 AM I have a 383, tko 500 (3.27 first) and 3.08 gears in my Camaro. It will roast the tires at will in first with less than half throttle with no help from the clutch. Chassis dyno'ed at 293 hp, 390 tq, 350 tq even at 2k.
That short first gear helps out no doubt.
My engine's going to be in front of a 700R4. Those trannys have pretty wide spaced gears but also a generous (3.06) first gear also so that should help me out.
I'm also probably going to be running something like 235-255 all around. :)
I'm pretty concerned with being able to roast my tires. I have a bad experience with my old car which I couldn't even get them spinning in the dry to save my life.
4400lbs, 2.73 open rear, turd 355 with no compression and too big of a cam/not enough stall. :(
So I want to make darn sure I'll be able to roast them with this new motor without much effort.
Tickets these days are so expensive anymore than outright speed isn't worth it anymore, especially if you're young. I'd rather buy new tires than pay tickets :D Know what I mean?
DOUG G Jun 22nd, 07, 7:22 AM 30mph roll just cruising down the road, drop to second and go WOT at same time.... and it's sideways.
3.73 gears.
