: Engine Combo. Setup Advice?

Hi all, I am getting ready to start redoing my engine for more power. As of now my 72 chevelle has a fairly stock small journal 327 casting number 3959512, which runs great. I am planning on slapping some GM 2.02/1.60 heads from Aerohead, a Comp Cam 224/230 @ .050, Edelbrock Air Gap intake, a nice mechanical fuel pump, and around a 2400 stall. My question is, What compression do these motors have, I've tried finding it out, but no results. I would like to know if this is too much cam for a stock bottom end. The new heads will be 64 cc, I dont know what the ones I have on right now are, I think they are camel humps, those are also 64 cc chambers right? Sorry for the long confusing post, any advice on changes i should make or feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Cyrus

There is a CR calculator and some info on matching cam and compression (DCR) linked in my sig.

I run a stock 327 bottom end to 7000 RPM and everyone around here asks me why I don't wind it harder. My cam is about that size and I've been running it for four years now.

Thanks Pat and Pony Hunter. I am very relieved to know that my 327 will hold up. Maybe I should go bigger on the cam and raise the compression with smaller chamber heads, that would be fun!!!!

Thanks again,

Get more convertor..something in the 3000 range
That 327 needs all the torque multiplication it can get

That 327 needs all the torque multiplication it can get I agree with going to a high stall converter if it's gonna be a mainly track car, with little street use. If it's gonna be your daily driver/street/strip car, then I don't think you'd really wanna go higher then 2400 max. As it is, I'm running a Holeshot 2000 with my 388ci in my 71, and it hits/kicks pretty good. I know I can get better results with at least a 2400-2800 stall converter, but it's serving as my daily driver right now. Good Luck graemlins/thumbsup.gif

or go to a five speed like the TKO600 or T5, no slippin heat building torque converters to deal with on the street.
