: New Plans for the 9 second Chevelle
Malibu Vette Jun 16th, 07, 7:37 PM I drove a friends Brogie Roadster last weekend, and liked it. 10 plus years ago I raced a Super Comp car, but tired of chasing NHRA points and all of thet travel so I got out of it. Now I have the Chevelle to race with, but am finding that bracket racing a nearly 1000 hp, 3600 lb, 10" tire car less than favorible for consistancy. So I have a new plan.
I am getting the Brogie roadster to bracket race and association race, but will be installing the 582 from the Chevelle. I am pulling a 434 sb from my 69 Camaro and it will go into the Chevelle so I can drive and enjoy it on the street. And finally I will put a mild (500 hp) ls1 in the Camaro in front of an overdrive for a nice cruiser.
The origianl plan was to sell the Chevelle if I bought the Brogie, but I can't get rid of such a great classic, so I think I devised a great plan and my wife agrees.

10secBu Jun 16th, 07, 9:52 PM Brogie is just the chassis builders name. The car/chassis style is called a '27 Street Roadster, basically a '27 Ford Roadster style body. In drag racing there are two basic styles. The first is more stock looking with a taller grill and higher hood line, then there's the aero version with a shorter grill and lower sloped hood line.
Neat style cars, but they aren't known for being the most aerodynamic as the front fenders catch a fair amount of air. You'll often see holes in the fenders to release trapped air.
Buddy of mine had one before he wrecked it a few years back. His was built by S&W. I sat in it and wasn't very comfortable as the pedals were quite close together and the trans tunnel made foot well space even tighter.

JOHN WILSON Jun 16th, 07, 10:15 PM Man, I was getting all amp'd up thinking we were getting another 9sec Velle on the site, instead we're losing one. :(
Oh well, at least you're sticking a SBC in it.

The stocker looking cars look better IMO ( like the yellow one on S&Ws web site )..........
Gee.......how do you make that Chevelle hook like that?
( An inside joke )
10secBu Jun 17th, 07, 9:23 AM If I ever step out of a door car (which isn't very likely), this would be the style car I would want. It's called a '32 Aero Bantam Roadster.

Malibu Vette Jun 17th, 07, 11:02 AM My Super Comp car was a center steer altered similar to the Bantam. It was a fun car to drive. I also enjoy the Door Slammer ride, but I refuse to cut up a beautiful and valuble classic to be competitive and I have found that trying to run low to mid 9's in a heavy car with stock style rear suspension is not conducive to consistancy.
I am keeping the Chevelle and just taming it down. I expect it will run low 11's with the 434 and will likely get back in the 9's with a little spray.
The Brogie that I am getting is a Series 5 cantalever aero roadster. You are right, the car is tighter than a door car, but then again, it only weighs 2000 pounds with a Big Block and weight. I am hoping to run 7.80's wide open and 9.90 at 165 or so on stop. Hopefully I can talk the wife into driving the Chevelle at the track. That will be fun to get her diving something.
mad hooker Jun 17th, 07, 4:28 PM as long as the wife agrees, do it!
434 elco Jun 17th, 07, 10:36 PM Malibu Vette has most of us envy. His wife not only goes to the track but also tows one of thier trailers to the track. She pulls the race car and Don pulls the big 5th wheel to sleep in...:hurray:
