I dropped off my engine for our club project engine build demonstration in two weeks at the builder.
After talking to the owner, he suggested that my comp XE284 cam was close to the edge for the amount of compression and suggested step up to a larger one. He suggested if I want to be different, the Isky 292 Mega cam with 108 centerline would give a nice sound. I was thinking the Comp XE294, since I have all the comp lifters, springs, retainers, locks, etc.
The engine specs are as follows:
406 decked to 9.000"
H616P030 flattop pistons with 4 valve reliefs (-6cc), Compression will be around 10.5 to 10.6.
.039 head gasket
Top-line Iron 23° Lighting 72cc combustion chambers, 200cc runners, straight plug heads
Victor Jr. Intake Manifold
Headers TBD.
Camshafts
Comp XE284,I was thinking of retarding the timing by 4° to bring intake valve closing to 72°. This brings the dcr from 8.29 to around 8:1.
Comp XE294, Run straight up. DCR would be 7.94:1. With DD2000, shows a nice power curve at the end and very good vol eff %.
Isky 292 Mega, Run straight up. DCR would be 7.86:1. Power level very close to the XE294, makes slightly more down lower.
Anyone have any experience with these cams in a 406?
Also how does elavation affect the DCR? I am around 1200 ft. Thanks - John
