: Driveshaft measurement please

Anybody know the distance from u-joint to u-joint on a 68 Chevelle 2dr with a big block and a long tailshaft th400?

I would like to have my driveshaft sized and ready to install when I get my engine in. If anyone could slide under their ride with a measuring tape, I would be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

There were three different length yokes used by GM for the TH400. Each would yield a different driveline length for your car.

Chevelles came stock with a short tailshaft TH400 and most people use these when they install a TH400 in a car that did not originally come with one. So your unlikely to get a lot of feedback.

The ONLY way to know for sure what length you need is to wait until it is assembled to measure, using the yoke you intend to use, or measure from the pinion yoke to the output seal and have the driveshaft builder set it up properly.

69 chevelle short shaft th400 drive shaft not including the yoke. outside of u-joint flange to outside is 57 inches. Measure the diff between the tail shafts of the two versions of the trannys, and would be a good starting point. Again like Jake said I would probably wait until install, there are many many variables

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll wait until it's in then.

Jeff, Opivyrocks,

thanks for getting on the creeper and taking a measurement for me.

I can measure my '69 Chevelle TH400 driveline but mine uses the original yoke which is a 7" long piece, and I'm certain my measurement was shorter than his by several inches. 54.5" IIRC.

I have a driveshaft for the Th400, the 200-4R, and now the TH400/GV setup.
