i have this block and it has a light layer of surface rust on a lot of the bores journals ect. I dont want to have to bore this engine any more and was wondering how I could remove the rust with out damaging the machined surfaces. will a baking or hot tank process remove the rust.

Don't know, but you can try what I use on old gun barrels, 4 ought steel wool and oil. Clean one good enough to measure and see where you are.

A good scrubbing with muriatic acid and a sctochbrite will remove all of the surface rust. Then thoroughly rinse it with water and dry followed by a slather of transmission fluid or wd40. Muriatic acid is available at most hardware stores for about $5 per gallon. Bob
