i am looking at building my first bbc.the block is a 69 396 and the heads are 72 casting #3999241 just whant to know with the right port work are these heads a option.also any guess what the max hp and tq i can expect to get out of a 396 and drive on the street every day.faster is better.thanx jeremy

per the NHRA flow #s, they are pretty good, right there with the best of them.

thanx for the reply every one keeps telling me i cant get any power out of a 396 and its not worth changing out my 383 6" rods 195 afr heads mowtown block.

actually the 1972 LS3 used the '2292' head.......very similar to the 241

I think the 241 was 454 only.

Use the search feature in this forum to see other 396 combos. Besides, if you don't have a flowbench to check your port work you could be making them worse.

I have a set of the 292 heads on my 402c.i. .030 over and I've tried to find flow #'s on them so these heads are ok I take it for a 408 c.i. bbc? I have a 454 c.i. .060 over 468 c.i. that I'm putting together are the 292 heads worth swapping over to the 468?

they are almost identical to the 241's that came on 454s

I had the 2292's on a 402 and I now have the 241's on my 454.Both heads are identical IMO.Both had mild port work done to them and I had 219-1.88 valves put inthe 241 heads.These heads perform exellent for me.If you alreadt have them I'd use them.JMHO.Tony
