I have a 383 with vortec heads that the head gaskets are leaking oil down the back of the block on both sides. When I built the engine I used the headgaskets that came in the overhaul set from felpro, They where for the old style heads, this is a '79 model block. Should I have gotten the gaskets for the vortec heads? At first I thought it was the main seal or intake but I changed to a T56 during christmas and found exactly what was leaking.

IIRC, there is a plug back there under the head.
Right up by the intake.
Head gasket won't cover it.

Valve cover leak is more common. Or intake. For that location.


Vortecs take regular old head gaskets.
