: Fixing the oil today. Thread size question.

I'm replacing the oil pressure sending unit today and have a couple questions. First, will a sending unit from any BBC work or did they change over the years? I'm asking because I'm lazy and have never found out what year my block is. Second, there are two holes above the oil filter location on my engine. One is for the sending unit and I assume the other would be for an oil cooler. When I put the engine together, I put the sending unit back in place and plugged the second hole with a bolt I had lying around. I read here a few minutes ago that the second hole should actually be a pipe fitting. So, I want to make everything right while I'm on my back eating oil again today. What size pipe fitting do I need?

Thanks guys,

IIRC the pipe plug is ¼" NPT. (about ½" - 5/8" outer diameter)

Thank you much, sir!

I found out just a little while ago (after pulling everything and resealing) that it's not leaking from any of the threads. It's leaking from the line running to the gauge, right at where the line meets the fitting. I'm gonna try to get a new line tomorrow but for now I'm going to ghetto-rig it with silicon sealant so I can make sure I can drive it this weekend at my wedding. smile.gif
