I am on a search for an oil pan. I have seen posts here about clearance issues on chevelle xmembers. Anyone know a aftermarket performance pan that fits a 72.Or even how to tell the correct stock pan.

Summit sells a bare steel pan for about 30 bucks. Fits Chevelle Chassis with no problems. Be sure to clean it extra good before paint. It comes oiled up in a bag.

Rob:

Perform a search on "BBC oil pan" and you will get a lot of threads containing oil pan discussion. I am in the process of beginning to piece together a big block and am needing a pan also.

More trivia for the oil pan mix. A B.B. Camaro oil pan will work on a Chevelle--- BUT a B.B. Chevelle pan will not work on a Camaro Why?
The indentations on the corners on a Camaro pan are larger than Chevelle pans and have a slight different angle.(steering gear) This is for factory OEM pans only. Aftermarket pans have this little problem taken care of. In closing I hope it all "pans out" for you!!

One caveat to the inexpensive plain metal Summit pan... check the side dipstick area carefully for leaks. I have one and need to figure out how to seal it after the fact :(

You could try some clear silicone at your next oil change, this way the oil level is below the hole.

I use a Moroso 6 quart kicked out pan #20403, fits well, has a crank scraper and windage tray screen welded in and a one way trap door. No oil filter problems getting it out with headers either.
