: Professional Products Aluminum Intakes - Anybody using one?
Clyde_Maston Apr 22nd, 04, 6:07 AM Is anybody running any of the professional products (pro-products) line of aluminum intakes or have any first hand knowledge of their quality or performance? I have searched several of the other sites and the responses are all over the board. I was hoping some of my fellow team chevelle members might have some opinions. I polished pro-products manifold is less than a standard manifold from Edelbrock. I like the idea of polished manifold for keeping them clean. Is the polish worth it.

Doug F. Apr 22nd, 04, 7:39 AM I've seen quite a few, and frankly the machining and casting quality is pretty poor. The ones made in the 'states are much nicer. Don't think a polished part is easier to maintain, unless you clear coat it somehow it will tarnish quickly.
Kx69 Apr 22nd, 04, 9:41 PM I think that there quality is crap.
bradford Apr 22nd, 04, 10:30 PM i agree i bought one and the are crap the front bolt hole by the thermostat hosing i couldn't even get a socket on to tighten the intake down. graemlins/sad.gif
Chevelle4321 Apr 22nd, 04, 10:44 PM I have one for the 383 I have built waiting to go into my car. If you are planning on bolting it on and going do NOT buy this intake. It took me 4 - 5 hours to gasket match / clean up the intake.

Tony66 Apr 23rd, 04, 1:21 AM I have one of these on my BB.402.Without saying anymore about the crappy quality of these;all I can say is Don't buy one!Buy Edelbrock or Weiand.Mine does work good, but it wasn't worth the 25.00 I saved over buying the performer.Lots of minor mods.not to mention plugging the rear heater hose ports.Who needs these anyway? I got the P.P on ebay for a 140.00 new to my door.I have a Performer RPM that I'm going to install someday if I don't get my 454 built 1st.Good Luck.Tony P.S I also had to grind off the made in china on the underside.
Clyde_Maston Apr 23rd, 04, 6:17 AM It looks like the quality is in question. That being said, how do they perform? Do they perform like they are supposed to. I am a function over form person. Knocking off casting flash and "cleaning " it up is not a problem. I have read some articles where they have dyno'd engines with different intakes for comparison and the Pro-products manifolds performed better than edelbrocks, holley and others. Anybody want to comment on performance. Overall, the cost comparison is about 60% of an edelbrock. $100-120 for the pro-products and $160-170 for edelbrock.

mr 4 speed Apr 23rd, 04, 6:48 AM Clyde, why not just buy a used Edelbrock Performer?
Bob West Apr 23rd, 04, 7:32 AM I've heard that pro-products is actually using old Edelbrock forms and they are less porous than Edelbrock. I have nothing to compare too except the Scoggin Dickey Vortec head kit that we bought for my sons truck. The manifold looks fine and worked great til he upgraded to the "air gap" I don't think you can compare it to anything bought off "EBAY" you don't know if its firsts, seconds,or thirds, or who else had their hands on it and screwed it up. It will be a cold day in hell before I buy anything off ebay for performance use, everyone wants to make a fast buck, and buyer beware.
New68SS Apr 23rd, 04, 4:39 PM Well,
I'm runnin one of the Prof. Products polished Vortec intakes on my wifes Z28.
I was quite impressed with the quality. The one I've got looks much nicer than the polished Edlebrock Air Gap that my Brother-in-law runs on his 70' pick-up. Mine is much smoother lookin where as his looks more like a satin version that has been plated. Plus the Prof. Products one included more standard features.
Not to mention about 80.00 cheaper. I would and probably will buy another.

Chevelle4321 Apr 23rd, 04, 7:00 PM No track or dyno times with it yet. Car has a few more months of work before it is up and running.
Clyde_Maston Apr 23rd, 04, 9:42 PM After taking your responses into account, I decided to go with a used edelbrock. Got one used for $95.
SleeperBBC Apr 23rd, 04, 10:13 PM I was just at Loper's in Phoenix and looked at the "crosswind" in person and the casting quality appears better than they where one year ago. But if they fit bad, than the money saved is not worth it.
19Nova72 Apr 23rd, 04, 10:32 PM Find a used one. I got a used Performer RPM shipped to my door step for $92
New68SS Apr 24th, 04, 12:16 AM I gave $99.00 for the brand new polished Prof. Products Vortec intake.
