got the heads torqued down and installed a rocker to check the geometry. Basic Elgin stamped rockers. We have two sets of pushrods, one stock length and one +.100. The stock length pushrod has the rocker contacting the valve tip from the intake side to the center and the +.100 swipes across the whole valve tip. From what I understand the contact area should start on the inside and move across center at full open. Think I should use the longer pushrods? It would probably be easier to check with roller rockers I bet. Bob

A roller rocker might have the tip in a slightly different place requiring yet another type of pushrod.
You want the most centered wear pattern. Coat the valve stem with a felt pen, tighten the rocker down and turn the motor over a few times. Then look and see where the felt was rubbed off.

with the stock length pushrods the rub mark starts at the intake side edge of the valvetip extending just past center. The +.100 rubs from the intake edge and travels completely across to the exhaust side. So I guess the stock length would be best considering the narrower travel pattern?

Stockers should be fine. If you go with the roller tips someday besure to check again. The stockers have a big area around the stem (allows for lots of error) the roller tips can easily roll right off the edge if your not centered.
