OK so I should know this, but for some reason it never was explained to me.
What does the numbers mean when you get tire sizes. I currently have 255/60/r15. I know the R15 part. What determines tire hight and width?
I'm looking for a wider tire in the rear and narrower in the front.

Thanks

the first number is the section width, the higher the number the wider it is. the second number is the aspect ratio (ex. your tires height is 65% of its width). thats basic stuff though......this site goes much more in depth. check it out it's kinda cool

whoops forgot the link....http://www.justtires.com/services/tireSpecifications.html

You can divide the section width by 25.4 to convert mm to inches. (255 / 25.4 = 10.04 inches wide. The /60 is the aspect ratio (how tall compared to width). For ex. 10.04 x .60 = 6.02. 6.02 x 2 + 15 = 27.05 diameter. Hope this helps.:beers:

Looks to me like you already have a set of skinny's on the front of that nice 70 you've got. You could squeeze a 305/60 on a 10" Weld with 5.5 bs. I had a set of 305's on an 8.5" rim, but they rubbed a bit due to the 4 ply side wall (street/strip tire). I am now running a 285/60 on the rear of my 71. You could also run a 295/65 Drag Radial or 295/50 BFG.

Right I have skinnies on the front right now, but I'm saving up for a pair of torq thrust to go all around. I found a pair of eagle alloy 211's a while back for a good price, that got me started on how wide can I get in the back and what would I need up front.
