: Helicoil on a Qjet???

I unfortunately stripped the threads on my qjet. Location, where the air cleaner stud screws in. I bought the appropriate helicoil kit(1/4 tap, 17/64 drill bit) and have the coil installed and holding strong. My question is how far should I sink the coil down?? Also should I or do I need to break the pigtail/ tang off that is connected to the bottom of the coil?

Thanks Brian....

run it in a couple turns past flush if there's room, break the tang off. usually get the tang out by turning it over and shaking.

Ditto.
Then you should be good to go.

Thanks guys, I had two local carb shops try and tell me that I needed to buy a whole new carb, what a joke!!!!!

The recommended depth for most helicoils is 1/4 to 1/2 turn below the surface FWIW.

David is right.

I mentioned running it in a little further because sometimes the top coil can get pulled. If that happens it can be a real PITA to get the air horn to seat properly on the main body. Of course, theoretically this could not happen, but real carbs aren't theoretical.....
