I want to use this manifold with some 660's on my modified LS-6. It is too tall for the curreny scoop and I was wondering if anyone has ever shortened one of these and if so what process did you use.

Please let me know any details you might be aware of. graemlins/beers.gif

How much do you need to take out? The plenum on a TR2X is HUGE, and it's also probably the most convenient place to remove height. If you ever want to mount your carbs sideways, you'll have to use adapters, so you can safely mill the height of the adapter (0.550" with Edelbrock p/n 2694) off the carb bases. Also, you could section the plenum horizontally and weld it back together. I think that'd look alright if you did some grinding and sanding afterward, and then maybe had it glass bead blasted or powdercoated. Remember that the carb pads are angled forward a little bit, and you want to retain that angle.

I once shortened one by 3/4". It wouldn't fit under the hood so I took it apart and machined some off of 3 surfaces-the top and both sides of the mating surface. There was some port matching needed. I finished it and returned it to the speed shop owner. They ran it at the dragstrip the following weekend and were surprised at how much low end torque they had gained. I think that 3/4" was the limit of what it could be shortened. This was in the early 70's so I don't know if there is enough meat to do this on a later manifold.
