: 70 Sweep to SS Gauge Conversion
mad70ss Jun 11th, 07, 8:11 PM Quick question,
I am doing a 70 Sweep to SS Gauge Conversion. I am helping a friend out, he has the dash, gauge cluster and the dash harness. My question is, does this harness just plugs right in?? do we need to switch the engine harness as well?? or we could use the current 350 engine harness that is there and all we need to do is switch the dash harness??
thanks fellas
WillW23 Jun 11th, 07, 10:32 PM I know when I did a dash swap, my new dash harness just plugged right into the firewall like the old Malibu harness did. The only difference was I went from a small block to big block, with gauges. So I had to do a new engine harness as well, because my senders were single pole, instead of the 2 prong senders for lights. You might have to consider that if you are going from idiot lights to gauges.

mad70ss Jun 12th, 07, 12:08 PM well his its a small block sweep style cluster, he wants to install the SS gauges cluster which he has with the dash harness, will this work with the current small block engine harness??

Yes. The FWD lamp harness is different. You will need to add the wires for the amp gauge or replace it.
mad70ss Jun 12th, 07, 7:24 PM I guess he also plans to drop in a BB later on, so might as well just change the engine harness right?? for a BB, right?
Elree Colby Jun 13th, 07, 12:27 AM The engine harness is the same for gauge or light dash. The only significant difference between BS and BB is the length of the oil pressure switch wire. So the engine harness can be easily modified to use with a BB. However if a new engine harness is within his budget, get it. The engine harness tends to be in shoddy condition after 37 years of heat and oil.
The forward lamp harness needs amp gauge wiring, it can be added to the old harness or a new harness will be better.
mad70ss Jun 13th, 07, 12:14 PM Cool, I think he will just going to have to fork out a new harness. Thanks Fellas
crazychevelleman Jun 14th, 07, 10:33 AM look into a 1972 heavy chevy harness they came with 350 SBC and used the round guages. Just buy the engine harness and the under dash harness. Hope this helps
