Hello everyone,

Needing some help installing my chevy 8 track player for my 69 chevelle. When I first had it hooked up and grounded, the power came on and you could hear the 8 track turning, but wasn't getting any sound from the speakers and the track selector wasn't working. I thought it needed a new amp, so I sent it to someone to get bench tested, serviced, and checked out. He said that it was in perfect working condition and he could hear the tapes fine. He mentioned something about the vehicle wiring, so I am wondering where I go from here. If I need to get my car re-wired, or just key in on one certain area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony
:beers:

Sounds like a speaker problem.
Are the tape players speakers seperate from the radio ?
Could be your speaker wiring or the speakers are shot.

My buddy has it hooked up where the factory radio is going through the front two speakers, and I was going to use the rear speakers for 8 track player.

You can check the speakers and wiring by using a 1.5 v AA battery in parallel accross the rear speaker wires
you should hear a little thump from each speaker as you connect the battery.

Hey Tony;
Are the speakers are hooked up to the radio? ..... if so this could cause feel-back when you also connect the 8-track. I remember back in the early 70's I had that problem when adding an 8-track player.

Is the 8-track factory or aftermarket?

I should add, keeping the radio on the front 2 and wiring the tape player to the rear 2 speakers and keeping it all seperate is the probably the safest.
You can wire all 4 up to both but you'll need a fader control and a changeover relay and it will get real messy.

Hi Guys,

My 8 track player is definitely stock. Trying to get my chevelle back to original as possible and thought it would be cool to add the 8 track player option too. Right now I have the kick panel speakers hooked up to original radio. Not sure about my center dash speaker right now if that works or not, but the plan was to use the kick panel speakers for radio and rears for 8 track. just wish i could hear some music.

Test your rear speakers, if you don't have an ohm meter ? try the battery test.
If they're original they're probably shot, or the speaker wire is shorted or broken.

There are two models available for 69. Model is used without the multiplex adaptor and AM/FM radio. Model is used with the multiplex and AM/FM radio. If you have the mono radio the center dash speaker is connected to the radio. Model 91BT411 is wired to the kick pnl and rear speakers. If you have the AM/FM, multiplex adaptor and model 91BT421 the radio and 8-track share the kick pnl and rear speakers, the center speaker is not used. If you have model 91BT421 it doesn't work with the A/M radio nor does it work by it's self.
