Hello all, I am just starting to restore my 67 and I did the brakes this weekend, Well after bleeding them I found that I have a small leak right below the reservoir. Is there a gasket there ?
The pic below shows what I am talking about

Andy,
There is a gasket there, but it is more of a dust shield. If it is leaking there, the master cylinder is bad, the internal seal is leaking.

Correct. But first make sure that it is a leak an not fluild spilled in the bleeding process. Wipe the area clean and dry with brake cleaner and see if it comes back.

I am bumping this thread because i have the same area that is leaking on my Chevelle and thought it just needed some sort of gasket but i guess a new MC is in order.

Sergio, I think this is a common area for the leak to show up due to the angle of the master cylinder - no question if it is leaking there you will need a new M/C .

On most m/c's it won't matter if the gasket (actually a cup seal) is there or not, as there is a drain notch in the master cylinder to prevent leaking fluid to reach the booster. I agree with previous posters: If the fluid is coming from the bottom of the cylinder, the rear seal must be shot.

also, as was my leak problem.......i had the master cylinder filled up too full....leak was coming from the cap seal....sure looked like it was coming from the rear though, lowered fluid amount....no more leakage
