I had to cut a decent hole in my '71.
Other people I have talked to barely had to cut anything.
My car came from GM with a TH350, so i did an auto to manual converison when i put in the Tremec. I dont know if there was something different about the tunnels in auto and stick cars or not though.

Anyway, go HERE (http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4060093&a=30911011&f=0). It's a sequenced pictorial of my TR-3550 swap.

If you decide to go through with it, you will love it!
Post up any more questions if you have them.

From reading the article in the tech ref section, I think it depends on what angle you set your engine / pinion.

I think most people that have not had to cut much have their engines angled down too much, but I guess it depends on what your pinion angle is. Maybe if you had some adjustable uppers, you could angle your engine down more and get away with not having to cut as much.

I would anticipate having to chop it up pretty good to do it correctly.
