Hey guys,

Are any of you guys having a problem when tightening the top center bolt that holds the dust shield and caliper bracket in place ? My OEM service manual calls for 140 ft lbs for that bolt, but if I get anywhere near 100, the dust shield just starts "twisting" along with the bolt ?? I am using oem bolts, not the repop ones. Anyone else having this problem or am I doing something wrong ? I just got an entire used spindle assembly and will try the stock dust shield to see what happens. Seems like the repop is a lot "softer" and thinner metal :(

I would try using some washers behind the bolts. The bolts should tighten on the washers while the washers stay in place against the shields.

Davis,
That will be my last resort. The OEM ones do not have washers and I really did not want to use them unless I absolutely have to, but thats how the repop parts work sometimes :(

I understand your situation completely. If you do have to resort to the washer method just use loktite and you should be fine.

thanx for the torque for that bolt!!...couldn't find that info when i needed it, so i went with 100#'s & blue loctite.....pieced mine together, so i had to order those fatties from fastenal, no hardware store had bolts that fat, so, naturally, i figured they should have washers.....washers on those bolts may cause the head of the bolt to make contact with the rotor surface.....do over...i caught it in time, luckily....don't know about the shields, i scored some oem's off e-bay for a song....no issues there....did you try a bolt thru the lower steering arm hole to help keep it from moving maybe?

g,
The entire plate isnt moving, it is bolted to the bottom already. The bolt is sort of "digging in" and actually twisting the metal. I just got a used oem plate off e-bay and there is a considerable difference in the material. The oem one is thicker and seems to be a "harder" metal. I guess I am going to have to try a thin washer of some type unless I can find another nice used dust shield for the other side. Sort of a shame not to use the nice clean, new ones but so far almost everything I have purchased aftermarket has been inferior to the stock parts :(

I don't recall this issue with my repro dust shields. They came from either Year One or Master Power, pretty sure it was Year One.
