Is anyone out there running TRW-L2240F60 pistions and Comp Cam's magnum muscle cam?

I'm looking at running:
- 396 punched to 4.154, TRW L2240F60 pistons
- 840 square port heads 2.19 intakes, 1.88 exhaust valves
- Comp Cams Magnum Muscle Cam .575 lift intake, .604 on the exhaust side

I'm concerned about the piston to valve clearance on this combo. Anyone out there have experience with a similar combo? I currently have the short block in the car with 063 heads (stock valves) and a comp cams XE274 hyd cam with .552 IN and .555 EX lift. On DD it looks like this combo would bump HP/TQ considerably. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ted

also be concerned with the valves hitting the cylinder wall edge.

I hope that you get some feedback cuz it'll sure help me out too smile.gif
I want to run the same cam in my 454, with KB .250 pop up pistons, but my block has been decked to zero deck height too so that might cause some problems for me.

Ted, I have a .578/.592 311/316 adv. duration cam in my +.060 396 using L2242F60 pistons (.319 dome) with 101 cc heads with no problem. That lift is w/1.7 rockers, I'm using 1.72s. The only clearance issues I had were with the extremely small chambers in my heads. This was with the stock small 2.06/1.72 valves. Not exactly what you've got, but might be useful for comparison. The pistons were .007 in the hole.

K/B pistons have more valve clearance cut into them than TRWs. I run K/B 257s with a .610/.630 lift cam. It is only 296/304 adv. dur, 234/242@ .050. I have a zero decked 454, actually a couple pistons are probably above deck a couple thous. I have no valve clearance issues with this setup but I did have clearance issues with TRW 2399s. That is why I had to buy the K/Bs.
This doesn't mean you don't have to carefully check piston to valve clearance on your build.
