Well, now I'm convinced I'm going to get some sort of lock down for my hood now. I drive my Chevelle 95% of the time to work. Friday morning it was cool out and the car was running good, giving me second thoughts about it's condition and needing to replace it.
Friday evening to go home I started it up and ran rough and back firing through the exhaust, but intermitent. All the way home, I was think sticky valve, bent push rod, lifter went south for the winter and didn't want to come back,...all sorts of things.
Woke up this morning and popped the hood and after checking the timing, pulled the plugs, didn't look too bad and cleaned them, Popped the distributor cap and checked for cracks and carbon tracks, nothing. Took off the valve cover and checked the valve train while running. Everything working like it should and looked good. But still popping through the exaust on one side.
Ended up running to the parts store for new points, cap, and rotor....figured why not while I'm getting greasey. While swapping the wires on to the new cap, I noticed someone swapped the #5 wire and #6 spark plug wires. Put 'em back and runs good again.
I haven't had anything like that done to me or by me since high school.
Anybody have a good way of locking down the hood without tearing up the hood?
