I have been looking at what my affordable options are to get my car high enough and mobile enough to begin tearing it down. Based on my estimated measurements I figure that lifting the chassis up about 2-2.5 feet will meet most of my needs. My thoughts so far are:

a-Jack stands-My set of 4 six ton jack stands and floor jack will get me at the 2 foot level, but no higher and not mobile once lifted.I am also not very comfortable trusting $70 of Chinese cast iron to do the job.

b-Mid rise lift-More $$ than I want to spend and really best suited to do suspension, ties, and brakes.

c-Real lift-Have to win the lottery 1st or forget doing anything to the car

d-I came across what seems like a new product in the July Super Chevy magazine. The Backyard Buddy lift company has added "Easy Access" dollys. With the included adapters and casters they seem like a good option. (First to get the entire car high enough and mobile enough to begin work and then possibly adapatable enough to hold up the body after sliding out the chassis.)

Does anyone have any experience with this product? Do you have any other suggestions that you have successfully used while working on your project?

Visiting the site did not give me too much information so I have emailed them for more details. I'll add them once received based on your interest

I didn't raise my car up that high, but I used a set of rollers when I was re-doing my engine compartment. I pulled the wheels off, then put a 4x4 under the frame by the firewall, and the rollers under that. It was low enough to climb into the compartment, and kept everything off the ground.

I just took them off yesterday, but had the tires on. I can use the creeper and roll underneath to put my head about to the oil filter. I didn't really need the suspension up as far as you want when I did mine, just used a small roller stool to get me down to it's level.

I've seen these too and they look like they might work for me as well. Last year at Hershey, I spoke to the rep and what he had to say impressed me enough to grab the flyer. My new garage went on hold and so did any kind of lift thoughts. I'd be curious to hear what you guys/gals have to say about this, if you use them.

Buy 4 engine hoists, rollers are allready on them, under $150 a piece, pick it up from each corner, you will then be able to take it off and on several times by yourself easy, when you're done sell them.

On my web site you see how I pick it with three lifts.

Thanks all for the great ideas. I was thinking about the engine hoists as well.

Speed Shop, did you see them on display when you grabbed the brochure? Any memories of how high they will lift, how they adapt (widen, etc.)?

I called BYB yesterday and the rep did not seem to really know the product. She told me that they will allow a lift height equal to my max jack height saying, "As an example, if your jack lifts 48", so will these."

I asked how as based on the picture of them, that doesn't seem possible unless the adapters either flip up and lock in place (with the pins) or are "stackable" (like the 2 pcs of a jackstand).

I asked for the printed brochure as there is no downloadable web based info on their site and will follow-up with what I learn.

Let me see if I can find the brochure. It was too long ago....anymore I'm happy if I can read my name tag correctly every day!

OK, I found the bag with the BB stuff. The flyer only had basic "fluff" and basic jacking instructions regarding the dolly unit. What I recall that attracted me to this was the dolly set up appeared to be as high as the Kwik-Lift set up. It did sway me from going the KL route. Not anything against Kwik-Lift, just a commentary on what fit my needs.

Ok, thanks. What's a Kwik Lift?
