My truck project is sure costing me $$ in tools. First I smoked the motor on my drill press. Then my DA sander bites the dust. Last night I broke my bench vice. Anyway, I went out and the replacement was on sale, as was a small (3") air angle sander. They have a ton of things on sale, like a 20 page newspaper size sales ad. In my case the sander was $40 discounted to $20, the vice $60 to $40.

There's no such thing as a tool I don't need... unless I already have one that is bigger. ;)

I don't know about that, the welding blankets and steel 110# anvil I got there last time were made in Russia. :D

It pays to check. I've seen some good brands there at times. I think they sell AOSafety respirators at the Memphis one.

I have a few Horrible Fright tools and some of them are ok , but the rest were wasted money. My cure for this is to look for top quality used stuff on eBay. Milwaukee, Snapon, Mac tools and so on have come to me at very low prices and have put a smile on my face.

HF does have a few decent larger items, but the majority of their smaller hand tools are knuckle-busting pot metal contraptions that aren't usually even good for one use.

Depends on the tool. The drill press I got at an estate sale, its a 1960's Delta knockoff, guess 45 years is a bit too much to ask for motor. DA sander was only 20 years old. Bench vise was only 30 so I guess I got screwed on that too. Maybe my 35 year old Craftsman hand tools are next. I'd probably better plan on getting replacements for the carpentry tools my grandfather nd dad passed on to me, some of those are over 100 years old and still work ok.

I agree, if you need pro tools go elsewhere. But for stuff like welding gloves, tarps, hose fittings, tie downs, and other commodity stuff why pay more? You can get buffing wheels and compound from Eastman for twice the price but they still perform the same.

I finally got around to fixing my steel gates on my driveway this weekend. They needed the solid panels replaced, as they weren't solid anymore. As the job progressed, I kept going and pulling out more tools. By the time I was done, I had the mig welder, plasma cutter, chopsaw, portable air compressor (because I didn't want to drag out the big hose from the 60gal compressor in the back), 7" grinder, 4 1/2" grinder, sawzall, needle gun, and numerous other small tools out. Didn't have a need for a tool I don't have already. I think I can honestly say, I don't need any more tools. I want a few, but don't really need them. :noway:

We don't have a HF here, either, so it's a ritual for guys from here to visit one when on the mainland, and bring stuff back. We do have a guy who's earning a rep as "the HF of Hawaii" guy, though. He's good for the big heavy stuff, like presses, combo sheetmetal brakes/shears, etc. Same prices, no shipping.

My Die Grinder lasted two years. Until I decided to modify it. :clonk:

I know most of the stuff is almost too cheap to use, but IF I need something and if it last's through being used ONE time, I keep it and don't waste my money on Craftsman! ONLY b/c I may NEVER use it again is all!!

If I was to think I would use something more than once in 10 years, then I price shop the GOOD brands!!

You oughta check out my 1/2" extensions, probably 4 or 5 brands all bought cheap over time and ALL are good ones, imho...
