I had to buy enough steel to do 4 for now., and I'm gonna make up a jig for it. A couple are already spoke for, but let's not turn this into a ad. Just PM me if You like.;)

I should add, that I have'nt cleaned it up, or rounded off the corners. Also need to establish the hole spacing, and maybe blast them, and will shoot them with epoxy.

But this is not a for sale ad.:D

Lol, I was thinking the same thing because you were talking about buying one in Bremerton. I thought that maybe this was for you. Poor guy... You wouldnt want to drill your perfect floors anyway. :noway:

So since your producing these and they are for sale now can I buy one? Afterall this is a FOR SALE ad is it not? :D

I want some revisions on mine though. I dont like how you have to drill through the floor. I have made enough cuts putting the tremec in. Can you design one for under the trans mount? How about a special one for the elkies that mounts to the seatbelt hardpoint or something!? Thanks, let me know when its ready and I will send payment via paypal. :p

Dang, been working on it for a day or two now. I'm gonna mount it with some 1/2 bolt's. I need to determine the lenght.

I just got the first roughed out, after My little vacation in the rain, I'll get the rest lined out.

Brett, if You come up here sometime, I can build one on the spot, and get some plans for an El Camino. That way I could build one for George.

I don't like the trans mount one's, You don't have to drill the floor, but when My drivelines get's loose, I want it bolted to the floor. Another benefit of not having a Concourse car.:D

I'm there! :beers:

Oh yea, and the Elky isnt much of a Concourse car. Dont look under the carpet! :noway: :)

Dave, did you do those exhaust welds yourself? I might have to employ you for some exhaust mods when I put the big block in. Interested?

I can weld anything. Picture Me leaning up against a old truck, with a beer in My hand when I say that.

Where is the engine swap happening?

Geeeee, making them for El Caminos!
Bet there will be scuffle for the three Elkys in the group to be the one there for the mock-up work.....mine is no concours car either but want strong mounting.
Those are FLOWMASTER pipes, right?
Looks close to the H-Pipe...
Put me on the list....standing by.

Dave

It's up above the pipe's, it dont look it in the pic, but it's alittle close.

That's the American thunder system, from Summit. I did tuck it up close to the floor, as much as I could.

George/Brett- these will bolt right into elCamino's just like Chevelles. No mods or additional Development needed. The floorpans & tranny tunnels are the same.

Dave designed it so that it bolts to the factory floorpan support brace so it should be plenty strong....

It will fit into a El Camino? I was hoping that part of the floor would be the same as a chevelle. Cool, I'll have to get the production line rooling next week. Thinking bout getting several done, and taking them to the local powder coater, see how much to do them in bulk.

Thats what I said, but he said he doesnt like them under there. Why is that Dave? Boy, this is on the verge of a for sale ad... ;)

I heard from a couple folks who run that style loop, the one that bolt to the tranny- and they said there was vibration & had to put rubber above the loop cause to keep it from rubbing against the floor.

That is what changed my mind to want the bolt to the floor style....

I'm wondering what would really happen to it in the event of a u-joint failure. I am one of those over engineered type people that builds it to the NUTZ. Must come from my boat building days.

I will look into it Jeff. I could build it so that it fit right up in the same floor brace as what I'm doing now. Then it could be shimmed with some rubber against the floor board.

Like I say, I just whipped that one out to prove to Myself it could be done, now after the camping trip, I will refine the product, and head for production.

I wanna get one test fit on a random Chevelle/El Camino, to see that it does fit, then build a jig.

While I got the Velle up on block's I'll look into building a Trans mount bracket.

I could see there being a vibration with the big long moment arm on the trans mounted style. I know that in the event of a failure the floor mounted one would probably do the best job at protecting everything, but is the trans mounted one good enough? I think it is made of 1/4" material. When does a driveshaft ussually fail? It isnt generally at high speed is it? I thought it was more when launching, when torque is the highest, at that point the rotational speed of the driveshaft is pretty low. If it is at high speed what is it turning? 4000 rpm to 5000 rpm max? Cant imagine going 5000 rpm with 1:1 ratio (ie 3rd gear auto 4th manual). That would be way over 100 mph.

Very true, The one I'm making is out of 1/4 pipe, with 3/16th wings.

One thing I do need to look into though, is if that loop, the way it's mounted will change the angle of the driveline. I think it slip's between the trans and the crossmember. Which would lift it up some, changing the angle.

Nice. It is always good to make your own stuff.
One comment........You will definitely need a more secure way of mounting it to the floor though. Looks like 1 sheet metal screw on each side. Should have at least two 3/8" bolts on each side.

Dave
Jun 8th, 07, 4:17 PM
Sheet metal screws were only for tacking it up. I'm toying with the idea of extending the wings a bit. My exhaust is in the way of more then one bolt right now, but with longer wings, would allow at least two 1/2 bolt's. Kinda thinking one 1/2 bolt each side should be sufficient.

Brett, calc that out, and get back to me.;)

Ben, I'm going to be down that way towards the end of the week. I'd like to drop one off with You to be test fit. Maybe We can meet at 164th and I-5 Thursday evening?

Shouldn't be a problem, just let me know what time- there is a bowling alley on the right side about 2 stoplight up from the off ramp- they have a big parking lot we could meet at....

Responding the the issue of the angle at the trans, I think it would help right? Most people have to extreme of an angle difference with the rear and trans, I would think angeling it down towards the rear would be a benefit. Is this thinking wrong?

After doing some serious math work, the 1/2" bolts would be plenty. My fingers are tired from all the calculator work! ;) I would probably be more partial to just 3/8" or even 1/4" grade 8 of course. I think the bolt size really doesnt need to be that large as long as backed up with some decent fender washers.

Should be picking them up on Friday Morning. Might be making a trip south, to meet up, and deliver them.

If Everyone isn't racing, Maybe We could meet somewhere? Somebody's house or the like. I have a feeling that Frank has good beer at His house.:D
