: June 15th or 17th @ Bremerton
FourEightyNine Jun 7th, 07, 9:55 PM I was able to get my chevelle back together last night and im ready to go racing again. Is anyone gone be out there on friday or sunday?
I am gona be there on Friday and will go Sunday if im not having any traction issues on Friday.
The 8" converter is gona test the suspension a little better than the stocker.:hurray:
FRYNTYR Jun 7th, 07, 10:05 PM I'll be going somewhere on July 14th,,,,just not sure which track yet. Will have the Nova up and ready for a re-do.

Do You mean June? July 14th I think we're trying to get something going at PR.

july 14th, next month. PR would be fine
gotago Jun 8th, 07, 12:46 AM I might go back up if I can get some stickys by then. All I did last time was spin (and miss gears:sad: ) I need more time at the tree.
FourEightyNine Jun 8th, 07, 2:04 AM How bad were you spinning? What kind of times did you have?
I tried running street tires the first time out and couldnt get faster than 14.2, and I was spinning through the 1/8th mile with 2.5 sec 60fts.
gotago Jun 8th, 07, 2:14 AM How bad were you spinning? What kind of times did you have?

My fastest time was 15.9. Darryl says it has 14s in it, I just have to spin it up to 6k, Mike (loader1) tells me leave it in 3d gear as shifting to 4th that far down the track puts it way out of its power band. With the BFGs I couldn't get off the line, Mike tells me he has video of me hazing the tires through the 60' beams. You had to measure my 60' times with a sundial. I don't want to launch at 5k but I'd still like to put some stickys on it and see what it will do. The drive shaft loop has to get here first and then come the stickys. I'd still might run it though as I need more time to practice on the tree.
FourEightyNine Jun 8th, 07, 3:07 AM Were you launching at 5k? did you try just rolling into it?
What rear gears are you running? and what kind of MPH did you have? also what were your 60fts?
What kind of motor are you running? Also even cam? You might not have to spin it that high.
gotago Jun 8th, 07, 3:26 AM Launched at about 3k and tried to roll into it, I got better as I got used to it. I'm running 3:31s with a 28" tire. I run a 396 with a CC268 and 1 3/4 inch hedders. My best MPH was somehwhere around 88 and I gotta find my time slips but my 60's were about 2.5 consistantly. Trouble is my m21 and rear gears aren't the best match and I put the 28" tire on to reduce highway RPMs. The car has more in it, I just have to learn to drive what I have. As long as I don't break anything, I just have a blast running it down the track:yes:
66 Buick Special Jun 8th, 07, 2:04 PM Mark,
My '67 (cough) mustang with a 390/4sp/3.00 rear gears and 26" belted T/A's ran 88mph topped in third every time through the beam but the gearing didn't give me adequate time for 4th. I was launching at 3000rpm as well and going up in smoke. I was running 14.56. Changing nothing except adding a 300lbs passenger netted me a 14.04 at 88mph. The difference? The car stuck and lept off the line.
Drop your launch down to 2000 or so and roll into it, until you get some stickies. I bet you go faster, or at least quicker!
Good Luck!
Greg
FourEightyNine Jun 8th, 07, 9:09 PM Yes i agree, i would try to leave like your at a stop light in the middle of town. Then once you get rolling a little go WOT. Or find a happy medium where you have a little spin. Just gona take some practice.
I would also say that with the size of the cam your running, not knowing the heads or anything else on the combo. I would shift that cam at around 5k. Just my opinion.
Also your trap mph should pick up as long as you can hook better. Mine went from 103 to 110. Just from hooking it.
FRYNTYR Jun 8th, 07, 9:45 PM On paper, with traction, mark's car should go 13's pretty easy. 14's is reasonable but the engine is underachieving if it will only do 88 MPH. Get Mark some expierence and then get the car tuned in to maximize it's potentual. I think it should go 99-100 MPH range.
Mark, what heads are on that motor?
kettbo Jun 8th, 07, 10:02 PM Mark,
I've had the 68 RatVette 16 years. Roughly 10 of the 16 years it has been roadworthy. Pretty much each outing I abuse the ol girl but in a sane manner.
Before I put the OEM Goodyear F-70/15 redlines on her, I had 225 70 radials...really not drag tires either but it is what I had.
It took a bit to develop the launch technique but adding gas and releasing the clutch say 1800 as the rpms were rising...got a touch of wheel spin but as the tires grabbed, the engine momentum continued to rise.....and a good launch.
Your engine should do 6000 at least in 1st to get the car moving. Then go to 5800 for the other gears...do not shift into 4th...you have 3.31s and those big tires.
Oh crapola, 3.31s and M-21 with 2.20 1st gear....7.282 drive ratio
That is like a M-20 or Th350 with 2.52 1st gear pulling 2.88 gears!!!!
Throw your big tires on it, and you are in 2.56 take off effective gearing!!!!
Shades of my Meeno b4 the gear swap!!!:(
Yikes pal,,,,,thought you had an M-20!!!!! Even if you lauch right, she's not gonna wanna pull that much gear.
Based upon your rides in my car...major gear work, trans or R&P swap is what the DR ordered.
Here's what ya gotta do if ya wanna be a track hero:
hook-up with my pal outa OLY, Matt the 1970 ElCamino guy.
Meet up with Darryl and both your cars....bring 24 or 48 little friends or trade goods. Matt gets your 3.31s and you take Matt's 3.73.
IMHO, 3.55 is bare minimum for close-ratio gearbox,,,,,
Another option is to see if FRYNTRANS has a good M-20 box for your M-21 box (I saw several 4-spds there). This would allow you to keep your rear diff and "fair" cruising rating......:beers: Some people love the Close Ratio boxes. I think they are big POSs for a street car. I shoulda picked-up on this the other day during our juant.
FLINK has 3.31 but M-20:yes:
M-21s are a bit stronger than M-20s but I've thrashed the M-20 in mine pretty good, no ill feelings....
Let's see how Frank does tonight.
FRYNTYR Jun 8th, 07, 10:27 PM You're right George, the M-21 ratio is killing him even if he had traction. Either boil the tires or bog the engine.
I also always run M-20's. Have never blown one up and have been thrashing them for years. I guarantee my 427 in my chevelle is up in the 500 horse range and I trash the trans through 4 gears of sticky tired rubber.
I would not run slicks with my trans,,,I would be scared to drop the hammer at a prepped track with slicks. She might spit any muncie out.
Muncie with superior traction should safely get you into the low 12's without failure but each and everyone of them needs the needle bearing pilot and ensure you don't have the larger truck style bell housing the won't keep the trans centered. Not following these rules will make any muncie blow like a saginaw. 11's,,,,,I'd be scared to run a muncie at the track. Monroe is different, limited traction!
M-20 with some sticky sportsman pros or similiar traction should survive.
George,,,,that was only 4 muncies that YOU SAW!

kettbo Jun 8th, 07, 10:42 PM FRYNTRANS,
YUP,,,,he sure could use some M-20 2.52 ratio gearing.
One ride in RatVette should have him up knocking on your door!!!
Next time my trans comes out, roller pilot bushing. Such a PITA with fixed X member, small tunnel, gotta remove the console to remove the shifter....
I saw your communication with Terry the other day re GLIDE with Turbo input shaft. Any progress toward that? JMHO but go for it! Maybe Dr Dufur has parts could make ya one....(SoCal is a bit outa the way). He could Build one down there, wrap it, stuff it in a duffel bag, checked luggage!
Christine graduates HS tomorrow...:hurray:
Think I'm gonna go see what is in my den for :beers:
Gonna go hook-up with Frank and Ben for a :beers: ?
66 Buick Special Jun 8th, 07, 10:48 PM Well, I finally found a pair or wheels for the track. I picked up a pair of old school 15x8 Weld DragLites for $60. Now to get that sticky rubber from Darryl stuck on 'em :)

kettbo Jun 8th, 07, 10:58 PM Good goin' on the Draglites Greg.
POSI

Your old heads made a good impression on GOTAGO today during a brief testntune. Thanks!
Brett is pretty quiet this evening......

Mark, what heads are on that motor?
The heads are 215s 101cc closed chambers with stock valves. I have the roller pilot bearing. You and Mike were right, leaving the car in 3d gear netted me more MPH at the top but 60' was pretty consistant at 2.5 or so. I figure as long as I don't launch at too high an RPM and roll into it, the stickys shouldn't hurt. And what the hell, if she breaks it needed upgraded anyway:yes:
When do you want to start tuning????????:) My drive shaft loop should be here in a week or so:D
kettbo Jun 9th, 07, 1:29 AM Well GOTAGO,
YOu saw where I do a lot of my tuning this afternoon!
Just gotta get scientific with kid running timer or one of those plug-in G-Meter thingies......
Just in from an hour in the driveway. I washed the Elky really quickly, dirt parking lot is raising hell with my car. I quickly dried the wheels, got out GOTAGO's small POWER BALL attachment, added compound and let fly.
I'm skeptical about most everything, seldom get delivery. Previously I've tried every spray, abrasive, wet n dry paper and soapy water....got little more that a glimmer for a lotta elbow grease. Dunno if all this set the stage for tonight but.....as of now, there is a pretty fair shine on my dull old wheels:hurray: .
I think Ben would say "AHSOM!" Not perfect, not a pro job, but at least now, with shine on the paint, shine on the wheels, kinda / sorta looks like I give a she-ot.:D What will people say?
GOTAGO, thanks pal!!! I'll have your stuff back Monday for sure.
I'm willing to come out to YELM with a few goodies if you care to have me.
In a month, my Elky has come down about 1.5 sec. At least a full sec for the gear swap, probably .5 sec tuning and practicing launching. Let me figure out a few things, will get back to ya MON.;)
kettbo Jun 9th, 07, 3:20 AM Big after-grad dinner for Christine now looks like SUNDAY. Dunno what the wife has planned for me after the grad SAT. Looks like RAIN!!!! Drats, was thinkin about rolling out toward Yelm in RatVette. Alas, RatVette never goes out in the rain.
