: cut my hand a little
joeyv69ragtop Jun 7th, 07, 5:56 PM cut my hand on a wrench (how, i dont fully understand) and now theres a bright red ring around the wound and there is a dull pain moving up my arm. Going to see the doc tomorrow.
This is aggravating. Probably tetanus. Don't think I've had a booster in over ten years.
bah! whatever. felt the need to share.
Hope you're all doing well today.

PaPa Johns 77 Jun 7th, 07, 6:13 PM Don't wait til tomorrow if you have any pain or redness that is moving up the arm! Go to the ER! Tomorrow could be too late, at least for the hand or arm! I've seen how fast this can travel and seen people die from waiting to get something like that checked! Not trying to scare the bejeebus out of you, just want to see you safe and around here for a long time to come!

OutCast Jun 7th, 07, 10:48 PM Joe, please post and let us know that you are now back from the hospital. Soreness and tenderness around a wound, beginning stages of infection. Redness and swelling around wound, intermediate stages of infection. Red Streaks extending away from wound, seriously advanced stages of infection.
You likely have a fever as well, as your body is fighting the infection. Your red blood cell count will start diminishing, and you will have an elevated white count. If this red streak reaches the top of your arm, it can, and often will, head for the heart or brain.
An infection near the aorta (heart) will attach itself, and the pumping action of the heart will circulate it through the rest of your body. If it get's to the brain, some not good things will begin to happen.
There exist an abundance of very powerful bacteria / viruses that are airborne nowadays...staff, necrotizing facisia (flesh eating) to name but a few of the baddies.
If you are reading this, and still haven't been to the doc, you need to go NOW.
I've been a Level 3 First Aid attendant for 10 years. Don't want to sound like your mother, but it's time to make a trip in to see the man.
Good luck.

aukai Jun 8th, 07, 12:50 AM Must be a busy ER no answer
joeyv69ragtop Jun 8th, 07, 12:11 PM Hey everyone, thanks for your concern!
So my last tetanus booster was 7 years ago so that's good. The redness has dulled a little since yesterday. Doc says the pain in my arm is unrelated, probably from wrenching on stuff or lifting heavy stuff or even sleeping on it funny. They had me go for some blood work to be on the safe side, but all signs point to a nasty cut that I need to put more neo on than I have been and coincidental pain from various other activities.
I even lost 5 lbs since my last visit!
Thanks again everyone!

aukai Jun 8th, 07, 12:23 PM Good to hear Joey glad you got it checked. Don't believe the scale in the Dr's office. :noway:
joeyv69ragtop Jun 8th, 07, 1:04 PM by my own accounts I've lost 15, but since I moved out on my own I don't have a scale.
Do you think they took into account the huge wad of keys i carry around? might be able to boost their number up to 6 or 7 pounds lost!

Have a great weekend eveyrbody! :)
Elcoman Jun 8th, 07, 4:11 PM Can a virus attack a computer with Java?
joeyv69ragtop Jun 8th, 07, 4:26 PM Yes.
Elcoman Jun 8th, 07, 4:33 PM I though so, someone told me no. I had a virus before and deleted all my Java files, which seemed to help. Then I just reinstalled the newest version, no problems.
joeyv69ragtop Jun 8th, 07, 4:46 PM That's the thing about a virus... it can be written in any language, and be made to do just about anything the creator wants. Having Java won't keep you safe from virii, and Java itself is not immune to virii.
no1dc Jun 8th, 07, 6:21 PM Just an FYI if you have medical coverage on your car insurance it covers injuries sustained working on your car. The small stuff I wouldn't bother with but whenever you visit the ER $$$$$ Pete
