View Full Version : Stupid rain... I want to play with my other carb
RAMBO Jun 7th, 07, 1:42 PM Man... I got all my little race "prep" chores done as far as the battery hold down and catch can, greased my u-joints... Now i'm eyeballin & thinking about that other carb sitting on my shelf.... Rainy weather today won't let me get it out tonight to test & play.... No time tomorrow before the race either....
Doesn't help that i'm at work thinking about it either... ;)
Oh well.. I'll get to it this weekend :)
Tommorrow's supposed to be fairly decent. Unfortunatly I'll be in the middle of tha Cascade's, living in a tent. Freaking wife.

kettbo Jun 7th, 07, 3:33 PM Darryl,
Elky liked better fuel (premium) when I cranked up the timing.
I've put in some Octane booster to see if there is any bonus....kiinda hope not 'cause this could get expensive. I believe for daily driving simple mid-grade is sufficient. Better fuel for track day.
After fuel requirements are determined, time to look in the carb for another tenth or two. What squirter would you try in the 600 Holley for my Elky?
I am eyeing that 3310 750 off the bench. I need to rebuild it for the Charity Rat, will add secondary metering block vs the metering plate/fixed sec jetting. I'm pretty convinced that this is too big for the 350 with 3.42 gears, maybe 4.11s and std it would be ok. Or, whatcha thinking....

Current carb is a Holly Street Avenger 770 straight out of the box, didn't even play with the mixture screws, just bolted it on, set the choke and idle and that was it.
The other carb is a stage 3 Holly 750 Vac Secondary from Sean Murphy Induction out of SoCal... I had some problems when I got it last year- eventually bought the Street Avenger trying to figure out the problems- things got a little better, but I finnaly realized my intake was leaking- and I had different sized carb studs (different shoulder heights) and one side of the carb wasn't sealing. I re-installed the intake, and I added some washers under the carb nuts- and the problems went away... but i never put the original carb back on to try it.
The first carb had terrible off idle issues- one of the idle screws had no effect... They sent me another metering block, this one with some restrictors in it- but they didn't drill out the ported vacume port- Still didn't help- so that is when i got the Street Avenger.
I want to take it apart again- and try and put it back to the way it was when I first got it, and see what it'll do now that the intake is sealed properly- and I got 4 of the same carb studs, so the carb should seal properly now too...
Thats my long winded carb situation.... Unfortunatly, besides the very basics adjustment stuff, I'm pretty carb stupid....

I think your taking this racing me a little too serious! Either that or you dont have enough stuff to do and want to get out in the garage. With all your tuning and trying combos your bound to beat me. I am running rich and I'm sure my timing is off since I just set it by ear. I dont really care, I'm pulling it soon anyway. I guess all my trash talkin' got to you, take her easy George! :p
kettbo Jun 7th, 07, 4:42 PM Brett,
There are still Greg and a few others out there....
I like to tinker,,,,,
I just like a good-running car....

Can I take My portable garage, and generator, and My air compressor, all My tools and the Chevelle? Let's see, I'll also need the garage fridge, a TV, satellite dish, laptop.........HEY, We could be on to something here.
:D
kettbo Jun 7th, 07, 6:11 PM Another thought Brett,
If I do sell the 350 engine from the Elky after I put the BBC into it, more $$$ to me if it really is running good. Gas at $3.45/gal, gotta keep the engine in tune otherwise I'd not be able to afford the occasional romping on the gas pedal.
Brettd85 Jun 7th, 07, 6:21 PM Reminds me, I saw a 70 in your exact same color yesterday near greenlake. It couldnt have been you this far north right? Was kinda crazy how alike they were, you have a twin.
kettbo Jun 7th, 07, 7:17 PM Recall Brett, I did come up for the Smokey Point show. This is further than you drove down to Terry's to get the heads.
Not me though. Must have been one good-looking car if it looked like mine!
I visited with GOTAGO briefly about 2pm, he confirms the polisher did break a little shine onto my Elky. We'll see how his POWER BALL fares on those excitingly dull wheels. He was too busy to be dragged away in the Elky for a little firepower (right) demonstration.
