Does Campbell Hausfeld make decent welders? I'm looking at getting a gas/wire setup, and the local tool shop carries a Campbell Hausfeld Versa-Arc 95 Welder. It can go either gas or flux, and has a inlet for the gas. I'm currently trying to weld with a 110v gassless flux core welder, and I'm wondering if this might be a step up to better, cleaner welds. I'm planning on going wire w/ full argon gas for my next welder. Has anyone used one of these? Would it make that much of a difference?

Since you are planning on stepping up to gas welder why not go with one that you know will run right?
Millermatic 135 is ALL you need.

Sevt, it looks like you're on the other side of the "city" from me (I'm just east of Lee's Summit). Are you getting your equipment and supplies locally? Where did you get your weled at?What shops do you recommend? I plan to practice more with the flux welder over the weekend, and see if I can score something better.....Thanx to all for the input!

Karl,
I bought my 135 when I still lived in Iowa. Have a thermal arc 185 TIG welder that I bought from Indiana oxygen supply off ebay. The local guys didnt even try to match his price and 1k is abit of difference.

Ive tried dealing with Kirk welding supply have several stores in the KC area. Not friendly people at all and their prices are high IMO.
Been dealing with Hohenschild welding supply out of KCMO. They have a great rep Mike Brown. Located right around where Hi71 meets I70 in the downtown area. Phone is 816-471-1982

If you are also looking for sheetmetal the best prices Ive found is from Metal by the foot, just down the road on truman from Hohenschild.
Bought a 4x10 piece of 18ga for 80 bucks, other places wanted 150+, one place out in Lees Summit wanted around 320

The difference in the 135 and a welder like campbell would be night and day. Not a Lincoln fan at all, their drive rollers are plastic, just dont believe they are built as good as Miller

Cool. I'll look up Hohenschild at least for my gas/wire needs! For my metal, I've been practicing with the old quarters that I cut off the Cutlass. I figgure that would be a way to put the old metal to work for me rather than hauling it to the curb. I'll browse the local tool shops and see if there are any fathers day sales that would include welders. So are you going to any local shows? It is probably a drive, but Lotawana has a show next Sat. I'll be there w/ my VW pickup...
Thanks for the tips!

Karl,
Ive only lived in KC for about 2 yrs now, am just starting to find out about the local shows and cruises. Unfortuntely all my toys are back in Iowa as I dont have the garage space down here and do not want to place them in public storage. So I go to the shows with nothing to show:(
Sure would like more info on the local hot spots.

Trying to buy an acre or two out by Sedila as I just cant take much more of this "city" living.
