I recently purchased a 1969 Lemans blue Chevelle SS and trying to locate some History on the car regarding previous owners and any documentation they might have. The car spent most of its life in Missouri and now resides here in Kentucky. Description/ Blue with white body side stripes, parchment (white) interior. Big block (NOM), 400 Turbo w/console, in dask Tach gauges, 12 bolt w/411s. VIN # 136379k333530. Car looks to have been frame on restored aprox 10+ yrs ago (pretty nice shape). The Missouri DMV won't help me and CAR FAX doesen't go back that far. Any help you guys could lend me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Dean

i am supprised that missouri wouldnt help. about a year ago, my father ran a title search in that state and they gave him all he needed.
maybe if you called again and got a different person, they would be more sympathetic. we found that missouri and west virginia are the two most helpful to the car collector. good luck.

No actually Missouri DMV and i went around and around about gathering info on my car. The Lady at the DMV office was very polite, but claimed she couldn't release info. She even took my request to their attorney and they still refused to help me. I told them i wasn't going to contact the previous owners, but still no results. You can gather all the public info you desire here in KY,so i really don't understand the Missouri theory at all??
Thanks, Randy

Some states have laws against the release of personal information. Your only recourse may be to file a 'Freedom of Information Request" and even then you will have to show reason to know and just saying because I want to, may not cut it.

I may try the freedom of information act and see if i can get results. I understand and respect peoples privacy, but in this type of case i would welcome someone trying to contact me concerning an old car i had owned. I would be very interested to know how any past classic car i had owned were still cared for. Thanks for the info, Randy

but in this type of case i would welcome someone trying to contact me concerning an old car i had ownedYes but you may be in a very small minority on that. Some people don't trust the gov't and will go to all means to protect their personal information. They may not feel you have the right to know that information.
Sadly there have been very many instances in which people have gotten hold of personal information and used it for criminal purposes and worse. Thats why you find it hard to get this information. For instance, its becoming popular to use old info like this to get fake documentation of being a US citizen.
So my few examples shows some of the reasons the states are reluctant to release personal info to just anyone and have passed laws to protect it.
