: Fastes V6 ever?
'540 Chevell Feb 15th, 05, 12:47 AM Got a friend with a Worthy Dragster that last week end
They went to Immokalee for a IHRA meet and was low qualifier
With a 4.28. Won the first round, second round they went 4.19 on a 4.23 dial in they lost that round but set the low ET. For the meet and At 168mph was the top speed.
They did not have the big chief motor or the Drce blower motor this time they ran a twin turbo Buick V6 that they build I think 231ci they also received best-engineered car award.
Oh they have about 30 passes on that combo and had minimal issues.
This thing is real cool compared to the other cars very quiet and is faster with more than half the cubes.
At the end of the run when every body shuts down and are towed back to the pits Bobby drives the car back!!
I think this goes to show what you can do with turbo and F.A.S.T EFI
Could this be the fastest V6? What do you think?
66rat Feb 15th, 05, 4:25 AM That is smokin fast and one bad hotrod. I've always had a lot of respect for the buick grand nationals. The super stock ET record holder is a grand national running somewhere in the 7's. Turbo power is hard to beat!
onovakind67 Feb 15th, 05, 5:10 AM The super stock ET record holder is a grand national running somewhere in the 7's.
Which record would that be?

dyno jonn Feb 15th, 05, 9:05 AM At one time you could run turbo V-6s in ProStock. I believe Buddy Ingersoll was in the 7s with a turbo Buick v6.

'540 Chevell Feb 15th, 05, 11:53 AM It’s amazing they have put so much money into
Other power plants big chief heads, Nitrous, Blowers
And you know what they have more seat time with this
Set up and beak downs are minimum.
Oh yeah they are going faster than ever 4.19 in the 1/8
And they can go faster with a different torque converter
They are leaving the line at 13# boost when they hit the chip
And start dropping cyl they loose boost. Look out!!! They can
Get this to fly.
Just getting those other power plants to work right, man!!
EFI I’m sold need to start collecting parts!!!
68lokomino Feb 15th, 05, 1:04 PM Wow if only my v6 mustang would run that fast.
66rat Feb 15th, 05, 4:27 PM onovakind67, I don't know how to do the quote thing, but to answer your question on "which record"? It's NHRA SS/DX, et 7.81, mph 178.94, car, 87 Buick Grand National. That's one bad maama-jaama V-6 :D
MeanKen Feb 15th, 05, 7:57 PM Buddy Ingersolls regal was legal in NHRA till he just about beat Bob Glidden in a final round, I don't remember the track. Then NHRA gave him the heave-ho. (how dare he beat up on those 500 inch big blocks with his monster V6) graemlins/thumbsup.gif
kstanbach Feb 15th, 05, 10:31 PM Anyone remember the old F1 cars that made about 1500 hp from 1.5 liters? They also used some funky fuels too, but thats allot of HP.
Dragn70 Feb 15th, 05, 10:36 PM I have a Stock/Super stock video showing that GN set the record, the car wasn't even running well.

Yeah but they make it at what is an insane RPM compared to what our cars see. Horsepower is a function of torque and RPM, they really need to get spinning to make that sort of power, although I (it might be the newer cars) they stopped at 900hp or so (not like they couldn't get more, just where they stopped).
That is why a negative ft-lbs ( ;) ) bike will make 78+ hp at 11,000 rpm. Not knocking what they build at all, but just pointing out glaring differences.
kstanbach Feb 16th, 05, 9:32 AM I forgot to mention those 1.5 liter engines had huge turbochargers. I believe they switched to N/A 3.0 liter engines when Aryten Senta(I think that is how they spell it) died.
rancherlee Feb 16th, 05, 11:46 AM I've seen a few different GN's runs 8's before, there was a pair of them at the Muscle car shootout in Brainerd last year. Both were running 275cid twin turbo setups. I had fun beating a stock GN with my ford 3.8L at the muscle car shootout, his 14.21@ 98mph to my 14.11@ 97mph
'540 Chevell Feb 16th, 05, 12:18 PM Madmarv.
Looked at your web site and you car looks good
but the videos do not work.
I have a Phanton Blue car like yours.
Would like to look at the video do you know why
I am having problems.
mr 4 speed Feb 16th, 05, 1:52 PM I second that Matt/MadMarv's Videos don't work either..
wouldn't mind a GN as a daily driver.
Those Mitsu 30000 GT's are pretty quick too..but not my kinda car.
novaderrik Feb 16th, 05, 2:12 PM my summer car is an 84 Regal T-type- same as a GN, but not painted black. it was the first GM car to have sequential EFI, but doesn't have an intercooler like the 86 and 87 cars did.
that thing is a blast, drives like a Buick should, and gets areound 20mpg.
since i got rid of the Nova, it is now my "toy" and i have a list of a few minor upgrades that should get me into the mid 12's in the quarter mile without giving up any drivability and only cost around $500. not bad for 80's tech, eh?
68lokomino Feb 17th, 05, 5:24 PM Any ideas on how to get a 2001 v6 3.8 mustang to run anywhere close to that.
'540 Chevell Feb 17th, 05, 7:32 PM Yeah. Twin turbo, New rear end, trans and drop some
serious weght. 68lokomino this thing is mean.
They have some huge slicks that I don't think you can get under your car. But man I have seen, some serious stans with vortech
superchargers runnig in the street and 10.00 at the track.
The other thing is parts for those cars are every were. And resanable. There are some stan magazines out there have gotten
one of them?
68lokomino Feb 18th, 05, 3:30 PM Some of the newer mustangs are pretty tough with the aftermarket selection. I hope when and if chevy brings back the camaro they will do a good job.

(your STOCK 01' engine will handle 11psi boost with easy) One guy with a ALL STOCK 3.8L automatic stang built/tuned his own twin turbo kit and is in the 11's (well he has a stall converter also) The Procharger 11psi kit will get you around 13 flat in the 1/4
