I have had a shop tell me that he cant do 3 inch exhaust over the rear end on my 66 chevelle. is this true? he said it will be restricted when he bends it. should i shop elseswhere? anyone have custom made 3 inch pipe on a 66 - 67 chevelle? with no trouble over rear end? thanks for any input.

sure you can just remove the gas tank and go with a fuel cell :D then you can run the pipes down the middle graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Forget about a shop crimp bending 3"
go here www.torquetechexh.com (http://www.torquetechexh.com)
or www.taperformance.com (http://www.taperformance.com)

Both offer nice mandrel bent systems that are reasonably priced.

Jegs has a 3" system that has 2 piece tailpipes for $200 too.Mandrel bent as well, but you'll need to supply your own mufflers.

Whoever you are going to has no business being in the muffler business. I had a 3" exhaust system with Flowmasters on my 67 Malibu Wagon. I hope you are putting this on a motor that needs this system. I ran my wagon with a 350 14:1 motor that ran 10.20's with a full interior and stereo to boot!! 3" is the way to go!!

You probably can. I have 2.5 tailpipes and I don't think another half an inch is going to hurt, but what it really depends on is your engine's displacement,HP, torque, etc. I would go to a shop where they do old car's all the time and ask them what's good for your set up? And go with mandrel bent pipes and an H-pipe.Good Luck :D

It probably has to do more with his machine then anything. The machine we have at work will barely bend 2.5" enough to get it most places. Just doesnt make the bends tight enough, and you cant get the bends close enough together to make the curves you want. But i've seen exhaust from other shops that had a better machine that can. I'd just try another shop or order a prebent system. Mandrel bends are much better.

They hit it ... most local exhaust shops can only mandrel bend up to 2.5". You're shop is no different than most.

1) Couple options are to order the T/A or Pypes system, and install yourself ... or have them install it.

2) Stick with 2.5" system, unless you absolutely need it.

3) Find another shop that can bend 3" mandrel, it will take a special machine ... and a special exhaust shop.

4) Another option might be to run a 3" headpipe, and then neck down to 2.5" tailpipes over the axle. I've heard this works fine ... but again most people really don't need the headache of a 3" system.

Thanks, Neal
