just replace my old fuel pump with a carter hi perfomance street series pump.cartier sez pump works at 6psi and no regulator needed. when i fire up the car the pressure is 6psi,but within a minute the pressure drops and stays at 4.5psi. any ideas how come the pressure drops...car runs fine, but i thought the pressure should stay at 6psi...faulty pump?...new fuel filters,3/8 line, new pump push rod. somthing i'm missing?
thanks

Are you using a liquid filled pressure gauge? I am, and as soon as the engine starts warming up the stupid gauge starts going down in reading. I was out driving the other night, punched the throttle and car leaped ahead just fine. Looked at gauge when I was back in the driveway, it was reading 0  . I am getting rid of it next payday.

Where is the gauge mounted? is it 4.5 at WOT or is it under the hood and can only be read at idle. 4.5 is fine under acceleration.

Sometimes the gauge can get an air bubble in it. You can carefully crack it loose and let it bleed out.
