What size carb are you 540 boys running on the street? I have a 950hp which the motor seems to like til it gets under 2000rpm and also have a 850 that was on my 502. The difference in the 2 carbs is night and day as far as performance goes, but with the 850 I can run the motor in 4th down to 1500rpms with out clutching and going upp a gear. Just wonder what everyone else uses? My specs; 548ci, Brodix BB1 heads, Comp Cam 646-646 with a 254-262 @.50, TKO 600 with 373 gears. Edd

The 850 is quite abit bigger than your 950 HP. Your 950 is more or less a 750 main body with a 850 base plate ( which is 1 3/8 venturis with 1 3/4 throttle plates) . Your 850 has alot larger venturis (1 9/16 venturis with 1 3/4 throttle plates). My opinion the 950 is a little small for your combination for all out racing. A lot of guys on here like the 1000 HP's for the larger cube big blocks. Same venturi and throttle plate specs , not sure of the actual flow ratings. Your 950 actually flows around the 830 mark.

You may want to do a search...been discussed before. ;)
Same carb for the past three years...King Demon RS which is a 4500 flanged Dominator style carb...removable sleeves, presently in a 1095 cfm configuration.
Runs perfect on the street. In fact, just got back from running the car thru the car wash.

Maybe a poll would be cool thing. I will be firing mine this week with a pro systems dominator.
Engine (car) profiles along with carb used and maybe track results/streetability can be analyzed to give an accurate analysis. Tough thing to to organize but I know it would be a favourite read of mine.
I want extra power always and that means Dominator (Patrick's pro systems from advise on this forum).

I use a home built 1050 Dominator on my 540. I've tried a mega trick mega $$ carb (like 1300-1400 cfm) once on the dyno. made only 6 more HP at peak...was less down low. I tried an 1150 AED dominator back to back at the track and it lost 1 mph and .1 et. Mine just doesn't seem to want much more carb. I have a buddy with a modified HP 1000 (1020 cfm) that does excellent on his 540.
I wouldn't go any smaller for sure.

Just ran 10.38 at 129.5 with my 850 4781-C with the Choke Horn still on...yes it is under carbed for what I do with it, but at least you know what it is capable of supporting.
But, I can tell you from Experience and did I say from Experience, that the 1000 HP box stock from Holley is a great Carb for street and strip if you want to stay 4150 style and will run .1 to .15 and 2 mph quicker that the box stock 850 DP.
If you want to hand over about $1200 for a carb, then the King Demon Bill is running works great also as he has vouched for.
